If this was a local short track race I wouldn't be suprised but an arca race? 3. I can't see spectators paying for just one ARCA race this short. 4. rm posted: 03.20.2020 - 4:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) If the car counts and condensed schedules couldn't tip you off, this race was during an era where the series was not doing very well at all and it really came to a head the next year when series founder John Marcum passed away. Beyond the races at Daytona and Talladega, the series really didn't have much propelling it along at the time. 5. possum posted: 03.20.2020 - 7:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @3 - yeah, at the time it was a popular thing to have a touring series run as a "feature event" following an abbreviated program for the local classes. I can recall the All-Pro and the USAR guys running at Hialeah (which had the added bonus that the local super late models could be made rule-compliant for those events); typically they'd do quals for the feature, then run maybe 2 of the 4 local classes, and then the big boys. @4 - regardless of ARCA's situation in 1980, racing at Flat Rock was evidently successful, since they continued doing so a couple of times per year until the turn of the century. 6. ARCA probably ran heat races for the feature to fill out the program in addition to running local classes. It's something I've seen in reports for other races. 7.
