Davey makes his big track debut. He had been racing for about a year
around local short tracks around Alabama in a self built Chevrolet Nova.
Bobby dusted off one of his AMC Matador Coupe's he had from running them
in 1977 for Davey in this race.

He did really well for it being his debut, leading 14 laps before his
engine expired.

Harry Gant actually won the pole while qualifying Billie Harvey's car,
as Harvey had to have an emergency dental procedure to have a tooth
pulled the morning of qualifying. Officials might have let the time
stand normally, and just send Harvey to the rear on the start, but after
Gant turned in a lap nearly 3 miles an hour quicker than would-be
outside polesitter Marvin Smith, the Gant/Harvey car was placed as the
final starter among cars that took a qualifying time. It didn't matter
much to Harvey, who took the lead on lap 59 and won the race anyway.

Billie Harvey's second ARCA start nets him his second ARCA win. This
would be his last win on the circuit although he would make a further 13
ARCA starts through 1986 with five more top-5s.
