Then three-time and reigning ASA champion Mark Martin makes his ARCA
debut and wins it at Talladega, prevailing in a battle of future NASCAR
stars over Joe Ruttman and Tim Richmond. This victory came as Martin was
starting to dabble in running NASCAR Winston Cup races and it would be
his only ARCA start as he made his way up the ladder.

preparation time meant his AMC Matador was too slow to qualify.

Talladega since 1970.

After failing to qualify at Daytona Paul Hansen makes his ARCA debut at
the age of just 16. Hansen may have been barely old enough to have a
driver's license but he still finished the race at the wheel of his #83
Oldsmobile.

This race marked was Red Farmer's return to ARCA racing for the first
time since 1974. The Alabama Gang's return saw him qualify at the back
and go out early driving his signature #97. He'd been back later,
running a couple of super speedway races each year throughout the rest
of the decade and into the early 1990s before making another short
comeback in the early 2000s.
