Stacy's #2 NASCAR Cup ride from Dale Earnhardt mid-season in 1981 Joe Ruttman and Stacy planned a full-time campaign in 1982. They kicked off their effort with an ARCA one-off here at Daytona with Joe driving a big 1970s Oldsmobile #9 that was painted in an identical blue-and-yellow J.D. Stacy scheme to his Cup car. Ruttman took control in the second half of this race en route to the victory, the second of his three ARCA wins and his first in over a year. 7. rm posted: 06.06.2020 - 11:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 21 sponsor - Kinsey Racing Ent. 21 owner - Doc Kinsey Delmar Clark was yet another victim of a treacherous tumble exiting turn 4 at Daytona, though according to a newspaper recap of the race he only suffered very minor injuries when he was nearly jostled out of the seat of his car. WD: Tom Raley (unsure on a number) Raley was gearing up to make a comeback to big-time stock car racing, but after breaking his ribs in a practice crash he was forced to withdraw from both the ARCA race and the Sportsman race (which would go down in history as the first race of the modern Xfinity series). 8. rm posted: 07.24.2020 - 7:24 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Margin of victory - 3 seconds 05 owner - Bill Meazell To the rear - 05 - driver change (redundant though, the car started last anyway) DC: Bill Meazell, #05 Oldsmobile (Bill Meazell) DNQ: John Rezek Not sure why Meazell Sr. stepped aside for Dr. Tarr here. 9. American Motors had already long since dropped out of big time NASCAR racing, parting ways with Roger Penske at the end of 1975, but some of the big Matadors soldiered on with other teams or in places like ARCA. Here Davey Allison had the honor of taking AMC into battle for the last time as he qualified at the front with one of his Dad's old Matadors only to blow an engine. Davey switched to a Pontiac for his next start at Talladega. AMC as a brand died off in 1988 after being bought out by Chrysler (mostly so it could acquire Jeep). Former NASCAR Cup racer Dr. Don Tarr makes a one-off racing comeback to run this race after almost a decade on the sidelines. His last major race in the driver's seat before this was an ARCA event back in 1973. He too went out early with a blown engine then hung up his helmet for good. 10. Usually a car sponsored by Sims Bros Construction was owned by the Sims Bros (sometimes shown as "Jesse Sims" here on R-R); a number of drivers in the Alabama Gang/Allison orbit drove for them. OTOH, being an AMC suggests it's Allison's car. OTOOH, it's possible it was Allison's car, but entered by Sims to save Allison the paperwork or something. 16.
