Apparently it was the first protest in the series since 1963. Bob Dotter had dominated the race from the opening jump, but Bob Schacht blew past Dotter coming to get 2 to go and eased to the unlikely win. Dotter claimed that Schacht had only won through the use of NOS. As the results sheet would indicate, Schacht kept the win as Dotter's protest held no ground. The full review of the race did prompt one change, though. Scott Stovall had been shorted one lap by the scoring, originally being placed 4th. Nashville regular Dorris Vaughn was bumped from the podium in the process. The feature race was originally scheduled for 100 laps, but a popup storm washed out the 6-lap heat race and the promoters were able to get the series to add those 6 laps to the feature race distance instead so that the fans would get every lap of racing that they were promised. 2.
