So it would be of little surprise to see Dean Roper win this race, as he was frequently one of the favorites on the ARCA dirt mile races in the 1980s. I would also guess his ride was probably owned by the Mueller Bros. here as usual. 2. This was the second, and to date last, ARCA race at the famous Terre Haute Action Track and the first on the Indiana dirt here since a combination race with the USAC stockers back in 1959! 3. rm posted: 06.09.2020 - 7:38 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) The 96 owner (and sponsor on the car) was indeed the Mueller Brothers. While this was an ARCA event, the promoter tried to fill the field with some drivers from the stock car division of the better-known USAC series - hence the appearance of Dean Roper, who was working on his second of three straight titles in the USAC stock car ranks. The oddity of running stock cars on the Action Track for the first time in more than 10 years didn't really move the needle for fans or drivers, with light entries & attendance to with a healthy side of attrition. Apparently Roper, Butch Garner and Bob Brevak put on quite a show up front, or at least they did until Brevak and later Garner crashed out. As far as I can tell, this was Roper's ARCA debut and he put up a very strong race en route to getting win number one in start number one. Following the demise of USAC's stock car division, Roper switched over to ARCA and became arguably the series' best-ever driver on the dirt miles, with 8 of his 10 ARCA wins coming on dirt miles.
