Finishing 7th, one lap down, it would be the team's best-ever superspeedway run as well, though in fairness the team almost exclusively stuck to attempting Cup races at Daytona and Talladega after this instead of ARCA. 25 DNF reason - crash Churchill's car was pretty much used up after being involved in two wrecks, the second of which saw him get turned into the trioval grass and go for a slide, escaping major damage until he was promptly t-boned in said grass, wel off of the racing line. As the first day of ARCA and Cup qualifying was wrapping up, a car accident outside the track brought some power lines down and caused a delay for the sessions. The tower improvised by using a generator from Junior Johnson's hauler to power the timing & scoring system for the rest of the sessions. Rick Roland's lone win, overshadowed by Gene Richards' fatal accident. A quick rain shower delayed the start of the race, causing the drivers to scatter just before they were ready to hop in their cars. Roland and Richards hid out together, talking shop, and despite seeing the accident scene during the ensuing caution the eventual winner wasn't aware that Richards' crash was fatal until he was informed in victory lane. 4. Combs was doing a one-off with Jim Stacy's #9 Oldsmobile team that Joe Ruttman won with at Daytona. 5.
