It was Schacht's third straight win at the Nashville Fairgrounds but this ended up being ARCA's last race on this track until 1992. In an era well before "young guns" became a hot commodity in stock car racing 17-year-old Darryl Sage turned in a great run here. Sage, a Nashville local, put his #86 Pontiac on the outside pole then took the lead from pole sitter Jerry Churchill to lead a few laps early in the is race before falling back and ultimately finishing 12th, six laps down. This was only Sage's second ARCA start and it would be his last for 20 years until he returned at the Nashville Superspeedway in 2003. This would be the only ARCA race he ever led. Don Marmor became a regular site in ARCA during the 1980s but his debut was over before it began with a DNS. He'd make his first proper start at Springfield later in the season in a combination ARCA/USAC race. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
