This race was marred by two very serious (and tragic) accidents early in
the race. Ken Kalla was killed in a crash on lap 3 when he spun down the
backstretch and impacted an earthen bank. Bob Brevak suffered severe
burns on lap 24 when he blew a tire in between turns 1 and 2, slammed
the outside wall and burst into flames before spinning to a stop.

There is some footage from the spotter's stand and Jerry Churchill's
car; Churchill had an onboard camera for the race although it was not
televised (as far as I know). The footage captures Brevak's fiery crash
(no footage of Kalla's accident) and Churchill spinning out in the
tri-oval and smacking the outside wall hard, ending his day.
