The ARCA racers dominated it as Dave Weltmeyer scored his first career ARCA victory over Bill Venturini as they both lead home Bob Dotter in a 1-2-3 finish for the Pontiac boys. Kenny Kotowicz comes home fifth to claim his lone top-5 in ARCA action. The top-7 were mostly ARCA racers (Bob Brevak ran all the combination and another USAC race) with the late Dean Roper as the best of the USAC racers in eighth with his compatriots Rick O'Brien and Butch Garner following him home. Roper had run some ARCA superspeedway races earlier in the season in addition to winning the combo race at Springfield. 5. Kind of weird given its status as a mostly Midwestern series. 6. possum posted: 07.17.2020 - 6:20 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @5 - probably a combination of the Mile being affiliated with USAC (this race was actually a USAC race, as was the 1982 race) and thus with the end of USAC's stock car series the track needed to look for alternatives; and ARCA being a relatively low status series and the track thinking they could find more prestigious events. Perhaps a bigger surprise is that the ASA didn't race there regularly, since that series was much more "midwestern" than ARCA. 7.
