Wayne Peterson, Bill Scott and Mike Potter were involved in a pretty
major incident in the tri-oval in the late stages of the race. Only seen
photos of the aftermath but it looked like one of the cars took a pretty
good shot.

According to newspapers Peterson spun through the tri-oval, over
corrected and smashed the outside wall, before getting hit by Potter and
Scott. Peterson didn't attempt an ARCA race for another 7 years.

Duane Pierson's final ARCA start proves to be perhaps his best outing as
he led 11 laps and matched his career-best finish with a second-place
run behind Cup-bound Talladega ace Davey Allison.

Davey Allison wins his second race in a row using a #23 Miller High Life
Pontiac LeMans that was fresh off setting a Guinness World Record. A few
weeks before this race Davey's father Bobby Allison borrowed his son's
ARCA racer, had it equipped with a trailer hitch, and took the car out
for a flying lap pulling a utility trailer to promote a friend's trailer
rental business. The elder Allison completed a lap at 164.338 miles per
hour towing the trailer to set the record. nascarman posted a great blog

...After the record run Davey got back in the car and did some testing
laps at over 196 miles per hour so his Pontiac was definitely ready to
race in this one.
