His car barrel-rolled over numerous times, and his window net failed in the accident. He was partially thrown out of the car and suffered severe injuries to his head and neck. 4. When asked about that in victory lane, Sears deadpanned " As long as the hood stays closed, the engine doesn't know what kind of track it's at ". 6. One of the few drivers from the South to run ARCA back in the day. 7. Nascar Lead Lap Points posted: 06.05.2017 - 12:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #06 Owner - Wayne Peterson 8. Attendance - 65,000 (same for Busch Clash, though most of the newspaper recaps of the day's action focused on this race and Bobby Jacks' wild tumble instead) The tale of Glenn Sears' engine gets even better: the dirt-track engine wasn't even his, it was borrowed from his friend Tom Usry's car. Usry came down to try to run at Daytona himself the next year, finishing 14th in this race. Usry ran the ARCA opener three more times but never finished better than 26th, picking up a DNF in each attempt. Usry's engine, unfortunately, had more success than he did. Sears also had radio issues at the start of the race, not being able to talk back to his crew chief during the remainder of the run. And finally, the truck he rented to make the tow down to Daytona from NC had an electrical problem that caused the lights to stop working, forcing Sears & the crew with him in the truck to pull over once it got dark. Yep. Welcome to ARCA. 13. rm posted: 07.23.2020 - 9:02 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I love some great eBay finds. Got some cool NASCAR, ARCA, & USAC/Champ car (? Farmer almost lost it but bounced off Allison's car, allowing him to recover, Allison to take second, and Sears to pull away for his unlikely win. Sears team had so little to their name that in addition to borrowing that engine, as mentioned above, they slept in their truck yet still pulled the big victory. Bobby Jacks went for a wild ride off Turn 4 as he looped it onto the newly paved and rebuilt area approaching the pit road entrance. He saved it and kept it off the wall only to get taken out in the big multi-car wreck a few laps later. It looks like Jacks hit the dirt embankment on the backstretch and kicked up a lot of dirt in the process. Bill Venturini had an ex-Cale Yarborough Chevrolet Monte Carlo for this race but qualified at the back and crashed it out in the opening laps following a trip backward into the Turn 4 wall. 15.
