I certainly hope there were more races scheduled that day! 3. rm posted: 05.22.2018 - 11:50 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) This race was 111 laps, and I haven't found anything concrete suggesting that it only went 85. 4. rm posted: 10.03.2018 - 11:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hage's sponsor was the Owosso Speedway. 5. Since 1979 there had been one of the two yearly Flat Rock races being scheduled for as many laps as the current year - 1979 had a 79 lap race, 1982 had an 82 lap race, 1984 had an 84 lap race, you get the picture. According to ARCA, the last year with a race like that was 1984. The only sources for this being an 85 lap race are URH and Jeff Wagoner's database, and more than likely one of them took that information from the other site. Barring one of them presenting a source for the race running 85 laps, I'll still maintain my belief that it was 111 laps. I will try to get my hands on a physical results sheet if one still exists. Another twist: ARCA's records for the season lap leader awards lists Ed Hage, the winner of this race, as topping the series with 289 laps led in 3 races in 1985. Hage led wire to wire at Cloverleaf for sure and a Dayton Daily News article recapping the Toledo finale says Hage took the lead at lap 50 in that event. That would mean one of three things: 1, Hage led 114 laps here; 2, the official records are incorrect; 3, Hage actually took the lead sooner at Toledo and the newspaper recap is inaccurate. I would guess 3 is the most likely scenario, as a swing of only three laps led at Toledo plus Hage going wire-to-wire in this 111-lap event would give him the 289 laps led that are listed in the record book. The official records being inaccurate also seems quite likely too though. Would love to hear some more opinions on this matter, or see if anyone else can do some more thorough research, this race is very much piquing my interest now. 9.
