This was Jones' only ARCA victory. Gary Nufer went for a wild ride off turn 4 when a single car spin turned into a blowover. The white #61 T-bird flipped two and a half times, bounced off the inside wall, and finally rolled back onto its wheel's when Nufer's car slowed slide into the grass. 2. I think his injuries ended his racing career 3. 23andJoe posted: 04.26.2014 - 4:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #25 owner: Bill Venturini (same for all races this season) 4. 23andJoe posted: 04.28.2014 - 3:06 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ralph Jones' winnings: $9,225 #2 sponsor: Herb Adcox Chevrolet (same for all races this season) #53 sponsor: ??? #01 owner: J.C. Ultimately though success here wouldn't carry over into the top-tier series, they failed to qualify for the Daytona 500 after issues in their Twin 125. 9. rm posted: 01.02.2019 - 11:05 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) Attendance - 65,000 Jones' winnings - $9,925 10 status - running 53 sponsor - Winkle Pontiac Motorsports This turned into a fuel mileage race. Bob Dotter was in control but needed another yellow and didn't get it, so he ran out of gas with 8 to go. Then Bobby Jacks inherited a lead with a comfortable gap over Ralph Jones and Bill Venturini when he ran out of gas coming to 2 to go. Jones had started to fall back as his Thunderbird began to run dry a few laps before, but he was able to maintain his pace and hold off Venturini to pick up the big win. Jones promptly ran out of gas before he could hit the backstretch on the cooldown lap. Jones also made sure to point out that his nearly $10 grand payday still didn't even cover the cost of renting a top-tier Ernie Elliott engine - at a discount, even - for the weekend. Jones used the same engine to attempt the Daytona 500, but failed to qualify after finishing 2 laps down in 20th in his 125. It was however a very good speedweeks for the Elliotts. Bill was a GTO winner in the 24 Hours to kick things off, then Ernie picked up a win here thanks to their close friend Ralph Jones, and Bill won the Clash and the 500 while finishing 2nd in his 125. Howard Mark's injuries left him with a multinight stay in the hospital. Mark had been planning on attempting the Daytona 500 but was turned down by NASCAR and then got hurt in this race. Mark never made the show in a big time stock car race again. The lap leaders that I've been able to piece together: Venturini 1-19, Pletcher 29-49, Bob Dotter ??-73, Jacks 74-78, Jones 79-80 I think it can be reasonably said then that nobody from 33rd on down led laps. Anyone else is still fair game though. 10. MSportRev posted: 09.26.2019 - 4:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Positions 16-25 were running. On lap 31, Jim Ingalls went low in turn 4 and spun up the track into the outside wall. Ingalls slid down the track, right into the path of Mark and Scott Stovall. Stovall went straight, only catching a piece of the wreck. But Mark slid sideways, slamming into the side of Ingalls. Both cars got air from the hit. Rick Jeffrey and Kirk Bryant were the next two drivers to approach the accident scene. Bryant went low, lost control through the tri-oval grass, and spun back across the track into the outside wall. Jeffrey slammed directly into the rear of Mark at full speed, sending the #31 spinning 360* through the air. 16. rm posted: 09.23.2020 - 8:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hansen status - engine Lap leaders: Venturini pole, Adcox 1-3, Venturini 4-22, Adcox 23, Churchill 24-28, Pletcher 29-49, Raymond 50-66, Bob Dotter 67-71, Jones 72-74, Jacks 75-78, Jones 79-80 Laps led: Jones 5, Venturini 19, Raymond 17, Churchill 5, Adcox 4, Jacks 4, Bob Dotter 5, Pletcher 21 05 owner (DNQ) - George Wiltshire 7 owner - Jerry Hansen 99 owner - Mike Bettenhausen ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
