Patty Simko-Schacht's third-place run was also her best finish in ARCA competition. Patty's run is still, to date, the best finish for a female driver in an ARCA short track race. Bill Venturini gets the second of his four ARCA wins on the way to winning the 1987 title. 4. rm posted: 02.22.2018 - 6:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) There was a huge crash on the start of the race when outside front row starter Ed Hage didn't get going, stacking up the whole field behind him. Cars piled in and half of the field was heavily damaged before the leaders even made it to turn 2. One car even careened wildly on its side towards the infield, looking like it would flip over before thankfully crashing down on all fours. The ensuing red flag meant the race that originally started with the last of the sun in the sky wound up being run completely under the lights instead. I can only assume that Rick Jeffrey was also caught up in the crash - from the looks of it, maybe 5 or 6 cars got through without damage at all. There's very little evidence to go on unfortunately. If anyone is better at discerning 80s car models from one another go look at the most recent video ARCA posted on their site with footage from before this race. That being said - my best guess is that Dotter was in the 40 which appeared to be a Chevrolet. That would leave Jeffrey in the 64 car. 6. rm posted: 03.22.2018 - 6:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Did a bit more research - the 64 also had Tri-State Steel sponsorship in 1987 when Phil Wertz ran it in two races. I feel like I can then say with reasonable certainty that was the car that Rick Jeffrey drove here and he DNF'd due to the opening lap accident. Bobby Dotter, Bob's son, drove #40 one race in 1986, so it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to say that Bob would be the one who drove it here. Dotter drove a different number besides 83 at two other races in 1987. Therefore I would say his number should be changed from 83 to 40. 7. Like RN said it was probably a car Bobby drove the year before, but it did have hastily applied Duct Tape numbers. Here's the car in question. https://imgur.com/a/A3KEmBc 8. Jeffrey would go on to run a handful of Cup races from 1988 to 1990. 9. RaceFanX posted: 08.27.2020 - 10:28 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) This was Randy Huffman's best ARCA finish on pavement. Six of his seven career top-5s were on dirt with this outing as the lone exception. 10. rm posted: 10.05.2020 - 9:28 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) DNQ: Roger Blackstock, #42 Wayne Blackstock Racing Pontiac (owner - Roger Blackstock) Time of race: 0:49:41 Average speed: 66.043 mph Cautions: 4 for 23 laps Margin of victory: 6 seconds Lap leaders: Keselowski pole, Venturini 1-3, Keselowski 4-34, Venturini 35-125 Laps led: Venturini 94, Keselowski 31 Lead changes: 3 among 2 drivers ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
