Laps Led: Ramo Stott- 85 (He took the lead on lap 65 and never looked back) The day's other lap leaders were Steve Drake, Scott Stovall, Randy Huffman and Lee Raymond. Polesitter Larry Moore spun on the opening lap of the race and never led. This appears to have been the only ARCA race on the dirt at Perry County Speedway. 4. It looks like this was only Gerhart's fifth ARCA start (I couldn't find not any record for him racing in the series before 1988). This also looks like it was the first top-5 for Billy Thomas. Randy Huffman also picks up his only top-5 of the 1988 season. 5. The Great Dave posted: 01.09.2017 - 3:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Newspaper said there were 25 Starters. Lee Raymond raced up through the field to quickly take the lead after starting mid-pack only to break the Riverside #1 Chevrolet while leading. Stott took the lead shorty afterward and dominated thereafter en route to victory. 10. rm posted: 08.13.2020 - 6:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Short of finding a more detailed local news article or some home film of the race, that's probably about as close as we can get to figuring out how the day played out. 6 lead changes in the first 65 laps sure makes it sound like it was intriguing at the front and 16/24 starters running at the finish is an attrition rate well below what the dirt miles saw at the time. If it's anything like the race footage of the 1997 race at Mineral Wells that was posted a while back, the lower speeds and higher banks of the non-mile dirts led to a lot more spinouts instead of burying the car halfway through the guardrail. Either way the end result was a surplus of cautions, from that era of the series with known info the other races at the time with double-digit cautions were mostly at mile tracks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
