Awesome to see these results up on the site, though - keep up the good work! 2. VoteGillilandNotDanica2014 posted: 08.05.2013 - 12:42 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #70 owner: Marty Burke 3. His 13th-place finish was his best in three ARCA starts during 1991. 4. That statement would be true with this 5th place finish, but the man finished 5th in the Daytona 500 once as well as 5th in the Southern 500 at Darlington. I think that is just a tiny bit more major competition than an ARCA race. 10. Jimnsimforever posted: 01.13.2019 - 5:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Make that 5th in the Daytona 500 qualifier. Wish you could edit your post if you leave something out on here without having to post again. 11. It was an Oldsmobile. 13. rm posted: 07.19.2020 - 5:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 70 sponsor - Son's Auto Supply Paul, McDuffie and Surma were all late additions to the grid the morning of the race as officials tried to fill the field; the return to a high-speed track like Michigan didn't get much of a draw among teams. They picked up those three teams that didn't make the field for the Cup race, though only McDuffie was anywhere close to competitive. The field was already looking light when just 25 cars took qualifying times, and Bob Schacht's pole run was 3 mph quicker than outside polesitter Bill Venturini. Eventual winner Dave Mader III had the fastest time in qualifying, but it came in the second round as he too was among those who couldn't make a lap in initial qualifying. Schacht ran out of fuel on the track and was relegated to finishing far down the order when he stalled to bring out a yellow. The caution allowed the fastest car, Dave Mader III's, to finally catch back up to the field and he had no problem blowing past Charlie Glotzbach & Bobby Bowsher on the restart with rain closing in. Bowsher was trying to pull off his third win in four races, looking for a major upset win on a speedway. Alas it was not to be as he dropped out after the final restart of the day. The two-time series champ had just 6 of his 72 top five finishes come at intermediate tracks, instead doing his damage at the short tracks on the schedule. 14. He also won a Grand American race at Nashville in 1971. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
