The situation concerned the officials to the degree that a mandatory caution was scheduled for lap 60 for a tire change, but as the competition caution was coming out Larson blew his tire. 4. 83andJoe posted: 02.28.2013 - 2:33 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Pole speed: 194.305mph Margin of victory: Under caution #64 was an Oldsmobile. RaceFanX posted: 11.30.2017 - 9:18 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Andy Hillenburg scores his first ARCA victory in just his fourth start in the series, kicking off his lone full season tour in the series with a win. This was his only race of the season in Ken Schrader's #52 instead of his own #11 but he would still go on to win the championship. Former ARCA champion Bob Brevak makes his penultimate start in the series, going out in a multi-car crash just before halfway. The lead up to this race also saw Brevak crash in practice leading to a very weird moment when a safety truck came out onto the track to help Brevak but fellow racer Ron Burchette didn't slow down as the red flag flew on the track and ended up driving his #30 AT SPEED in between the safety truck and Brevak's wrecked #34 before he slowed to a stop in the trioval and justifiably got reamed out by the track workers for putting their lives in danger. While Brevak's luck didn't get better on race day Burchette's did as he came back from that mistake to score his first top-10 in ARCA competition in this one. (R-R.info user "Seibaru" later named this incident as one of his "50 Most Bizarre Car Racing Moments). 18. RaceFanX posted: 11.30.2017 - 9:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bob Schacht won the pole for this one then smacked the wall hard in practice a day before the race, it wasn't fault as he hit some water laid down on the track by another car. His #75 team burned a lot of midnight oil but got their Ford Thunderbird back together for the race and Schacht went on to lead the opening laps of the race before the other leaders freight trained him and he fell back. Later his day was ruined when he ran over debris from the lap 31 multi-car crash and blew a tire, causing notable damage to the #75. In that same lap 31 crash Brevak hit the wall in such a way the wheels of the #34 Ford came off the ground and he almost tipped it over on its side. 19. As soon as they called it, Wayne Larson had a flat tire and hit the wall, proving why a competition caution was needed. Bad timing. Being an ARCA champion was not a desirable trait in this race: the first three cars out of the race were 1989 champ Bob Keselowski, 1993 champ Tim Steele and 1987/1991 champ Bill Venturini. Keselowski had changed multiple engines during the week and hoped the issues he'd found on race morning would go away, but not changing the engine cost him when he went up in smoke before the car even got up to full speed. Steele lost power while leading the race, and Venturini brought out the first caution with a crash. It didn't get much better beyond that as 1990 champ Bob Brevak crashed out and was scored 39th. Future champions seemed to be fine by comparison, though. Eventual 1995 champ Andy Hillenburg won the race and Frank Kimmel finished solidly within the top ten at 6th. After watching Cathy Venturini's interview immediately following Bill's crash, I now know where Billy Venturini got it from...guess it runs in the family. Saying that she was very upset would be a tremendous understatement (and to top it all off, ESPN misspelled her name in the on-screen graphic that went up during her interview). 26. 23andJoe posted: 07.08.2020 - 6:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Just noticed this season is listed as "ARCA Hooters SuperCar Series". Wasn't '95 the first year of the Bondo/Mar-Hyde series sponsorship (i.e. ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Supercar Series)? 27. RaceFanX posted: 07.09.2020 - 12:16 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) This was the first of two ARCA victories for Andy Hillenburg at Daytona. In this one he drove to victory driving a Chevrolet Lumina that had Ken Schrader's usual white, blue, and bright red AC-Delco colors on it just with that branding removed and replaced with a sponsorship from Air Orlando, an executive plane dealer in Florida. Hillenburg's grandmother passed away on the Thursday before this race leading his mother to tell Andy to go out and win it in her memory. He did and dedicated the win to both his grandmother and mother live in victory lane on the national ESPN broadcast. The Luminas were technically outdated, NASCAR Cup teams were switching to the Monte Carlo in 1995, so it's unsurprisingly how many of the Chevys were in this one with lots of them coming on the market. Dillenburg, Gary Bradberry, Joe Ruttman, and Bob Hill put four Luminas in the top-5 sandwiching NASCAR Cup racer Mike Wallace's Ford Thunderbird. Frank Kimmel bounced back from a practice crash to finish sixth in an even more outdated #02 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Kimmel was going to skip this race until someone offered him a free engine he could use for it and the future ARCA legend turned in a great run with it. 28. yahdiel posted: 11.19.2020 - 4:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kevin Ray's car won the Daytona 500 the year before with Sterling Marlin.
