This was also his second consecutive ARCA win at Salem since he won here as well the prior fall. This was the first ARCA race since Winchester in late 1994 without the late Harris DeVane in the field. DeVane dialed back to running a part-time schedule focusing on big southern superspeedways in 1997 and after running the first two races of the season wouldn't be back until the fall...of course what an impact he'd make upon his return... Longtime ARCA racer Richard Hampton finishes fifth to claim the lone confirmed top-5 finish of his career. Hampton hails from Seymour, Indiana, only about 30 miles away from Salem here, so it's great to see the Hoosier hero got to turn in a strong performance in front of his local fans. 5. This was one of two National Touring series appearances for the Illinois driver, the other coming 21 years later at the 2018 Eldora Dirt Derby in the truck series. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
