The dirt track star ran several previous ARCA races between 1989-1991. 5. He ran this race as a warmup to his 1998 NASCAR Winston Cup rookie season including his first Daytona 500 later in the month. 6. It was eventually rebuilt two years later into that 2000 Ford Taurus that Dale Jarrett drove to victory in that year's Daytona 500. 24. Randy LaJoie was around at the time of a practice session, and was asked to step into the #52 to make some laps and run in the draft. There was some question whether Bill would be back in time for the race to be run, in which LaJoie would run the race starting from the rear. But Baird did inevitably arrive in time to claim his front row starting spot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
