Tim Steele backs up his comeback victory at Pocono a month earlier with
another victory here to sweep the season at the track, giving the
reigning champion three victories in his first four ARCA starts of the
season. This was Steele's fifth win in a row at Pocono and the steak
would only end the following year when he moved up to the NASCAR Truck
series and didn't enter either ARCA race at the track in 1999.

Rich Woodland Jr gets his second and final top 5 ARCA run, his first 5th
place finish happened the race before at Pikes Peak.

Gary Laton goes out with a mechanical problem as he makes his final ARCA
start. Just three weeks after this race he would be injured in a serious
crash while qualifying for a NASCAR Busch race at MIS, ending his racing
career.

This was Thompson's first race back since he was injured at Atlanta
earlier in the season.

Steve Bramley

Steele's seventh win at Pocono and fourth from the pole position. Steele
was the man at the Tricky Triangle through and through. As of the finish
of this race, Steele had led 525 of 960 possible laps in the Pocono
races he started, over 50%.

Tim Steele initially hoped to run the Cup race this weekend as the
building success of his ARCA comeback had he and Bud Moore trying to put
together a deal to run some races at that level in 1998 starting with
this weekend. Sadly that deal ultimately fell apart and Steele would
have to stay in the ARCA ranks but at least he got this victory to tid
over that disappointment.

Allen Bestwick and Bill Venturini were the commentators. Steve Byrnes
along with Randy Pemberton and Claire B. Lang were the pit road
reporters. Ken Squier was the studio host.
