Promising rookie Chad Coleman died from injuries suffered in a hard hit
to the outside wall in the opening laps of this race. R.I.P. Chad.

This was the first night race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, it was a
support event for the IRL's first Atlanta race the next night.

Harris DeVane scores his final ARCA top-5 and the only one in 1998 after
his win at Atlanta the previous year.

Tim Steele was hurt when he hit the side of he #82 of Bobby Dodds car at
a odd angle.

Coleman had a vicious hit in turn 2 after hitting oil from the 17 in turn 2

First caution - laps 3-8 - 17, 30, 33, 48, 72 accident turn 2 (red flag
to attend to Chad Coleman, as it quickly became apparent he was gravely
injured. I don't believe that it was known that he had passed away from
his injuries until after the race though.)
Second caution - laps 11-18 - 65 accident turn 4
Third caution - laps 30-33 - debris
Fourth caution - laps 59-66 - 16, 82 accident backstretch
Fifth caution - laps 70-73 - 2 accident backstretch
Sixth caution - laps 74-78 - 3, 18, 59 accident turn 1
Seventh caution - laps 106-113 - 52 accident turn 1

Tim Steele, in his first trip back to Atlanta after narrowly escaping
from a crash there while testing a Cup car, wins the pole before
crashing out and reaggravating his injuries. Steele was forced to
withdraw from the next two races he planned to enter at Salem & Texas.
He also failed to put it in the show at Winchester before coming back
and winning at Talladega.
