Gibson was dicing for position when he got turned into the wall, and the angle he was turned at would have flipped him over. He hit the barrier and came back down on another car, and rode on top of him briefly, then came off on his side. The car spun like that for a bit before coming back down. 11. Josh Baltes wrecked his car in practice, and after a coupe of laps, Jeff Streeter replaced Baltes. Shawna Robinson was charging to the front, and was looking to make a move on Gerhart late in the race, but a caution came out with just 2 or 3 laps to go when Curt Piercy made heavy contact in the tri-oval. I certainly thought that Robinson was going to win the race. One of my favorite ARCA races at Daytona. 13. Kewadin is a chain of Indian casinos in Michigan's Upper Peninsula operated by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. The tribe long since left the world of race car sponsorship but one of Bobby's purple-and-white driver's suits hangs in a sports bar just off a gaming floor in the tribe's flagship Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan casino. Gerhart's first ARCA victory came in his 113th ARCA start, thankfully he wouldn't have to wait that long to get a few more. 15. 23andJoe posted: 06.16.2014 - 9:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #66 crew chief: Bob Bissinger 16. 23andJoe posted: 06.16.2014 - 11:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #08 owner: Jim Kinder (same for all races this season) 17. 23andJoe posted: 06.18.2014 - 1:48 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bobby Gerhart's winnings: $20,820 #39 owner: Roulo Brothers (same for all races this season) #53 owner: Bob Kelly #92 owner: Ron Barfield, Jr. #14 Stovall withdrew and should be removed from the DNQ list as Stovall drove the #28. #02 sponsor: K-Tel Chevrolet (owner Dick Tracey) #06 sponsor: Nealco Pontiac (owner Wayne Peterson) #0 sponsor: Synergyn Racing Oil Ford (owner Delma Cowart) #9 sponsor: SP Tools/Winchester Speedway Chevrolet #12 sponsor: Power Alliance Chevrolet #13 sponsor: Apex Mortgage Ford #14 Neuenburger sponsor: Cofab Steel Ford #15 sponsor: QMI/Leaf Racewear Chevrolet (owner Kim Kreider) #23 sponsor: Brown's Tax Service Chevrolet (owner Wayne Hixson) #24 sponsor: Cardinal Tool Chevrolet (owner Chuck Weber) #31 sponsor: Sheppard Motor Sales Chevrolet #35 sponsor: Carter-Bahre Racing Chevrolet (owner Dick Bahre) #44 sponsor: Cole Young Racing Chevrolet (owner Cole Young) #45 sponsor: H&H Construction Chevrolet #48 sponsor: Derek's Sports Bar & Grill Ford (owner James Hylton) #54 sponsor: DRT Enterprises Chevrolet #55 sponsor: Advanced Accessories Chevrolet #61 sponsor: Advance Auto Parts/Koolmat Ford #68 sponsor: Valspar/Performance Auto Supply Chevrolet #69 sponsor: Mixon Motorsports Pontiac (owner Greg Mixon) #70 sponsor: Meazell Racing Chevrolet #88 sponsor: D&H Auto Body/Kelomar Ford (owner Jeff Streeter) #96 sponsor: Landrum Spring Service Ford #98 sponsor: Axess One Touch Chevrolet (owner Drew White) 18. 23andJoe posted: 06.19.2014 - 8:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #19 sponsor: Mothers Against Drunk Driving/Invincible #21 sponsor: Zinsser Paints/Summit Racing Equipment #22 sponsor: Sonic Drive-In #97 sponsor: Riverside Ford/Performance Paint & Body #46 sponsor: Advance Auto Parts/National Pork Board #18 owner: Terry Baltes #1 crew chief: Marc Reno #5 crew chief: Billy Gerhart (same for all races this season) #18 crew chief: Tom Sokoloski #21 crew chief: Jeff Lemons (same for all races this season) #46 crew chief: Bill Kimmel, Jr. (same for all races this season) Cautions Lap 14-23: #59, #42, #97, #66, #39, #80, #53 accident turn 4 Lap 30-34: #66 accident turn 1 Lap 38-42: #84, #19 accident turn 1 Lap 57-64: #97 accident turn 4 Lap 79-80: #10 accident trioval 19. Carl Long doorslammed Andy Belmont going down the backstretch and the pack behind them subsequently checked up. Ed Curtis didn't get the memo and ran into the back of Strait and Strait spun around a couple of times. Strait suffered heavy damage to the nose and battled aero and handling problems the rest of the day. An interesting moment occurred after the first caution flew. Andy Hillenburg had spun trying to miss the big Mark Gibson crash but hit the wall and wound up with some nose and right side damage. The car made its way to the grass and promptly blew out a tire and caught on fire. Hillenburg climbed out of the car and was taking his time walking away, nearly a full lap after the caution came out, when Bob Kelly smacked the wall and started spinning wildly towards Hillenburg before careening back towards the outside wall. Hillenburg had to break into a sprint briefly to get away from the scene. Afterwards, the former ARCA champion gave a humorous interview with as big of a smile as one could muster after wrecking out of the top 10 early at Daytona: "They said did you bail out? So I did and I saw them still wrecking so it's a good thing I got an A in ole Mr. Raymond's gym class in high school!" 24. rm posted: 12.24.2018 - 3:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Additional DNQs: Scott Baker, #7 A&A Manufacturing Chevrolet (owner: Billy Gerhart) Brad Smith, #26 Brad Smith Motorsports Ford (owner: Brad Smith) Dwayne Leik, #71 Realtree Chevrolet (owner: Dave Marcis) 25. rm posted: 07.05.2019 - 7:54 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Driver change: Mike Buckley, #28 McNaughton-McKay Ford (owner: Mike Buckley) Scott Stovall's car that he showed up to Daytona with never hit the track, so Mike Buckley enlisted him to use his past champion's provisional to put the 28 in the race. This was Barfield's only ARCA appearance as an owner-driver (wonder how much having the infamous Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce as his sponsor played into that?) but Ron was kicking off a busy 1999 season that would see him run a full-time NASCAR Truck series campaign for Tom Gloy's team. Shane Doles' last ARCA outing was one of his best. Doles' return to the series saw him having a great run as he had his multi-colored #97 Ford T-Bird up into the top-10 and almost into the top-5 before he faded back a little. He was still running about 12th when blew a tire with 24 laps to go and took a trip into the outside wall as a result that ruined any shot he had for a good finish in what turned out to be his last race. 27. Here's a post-race quote from Buckley regarding the ESPN snub: "We had a lot of family and friends in my hometown watching the race, so I was pretty upset that ESPN had missed the driver switch. Most didn't know that we made it into the race since the car was a rental and didn't have our normal paint scheme. We were also running our new number. Oh well, I guess to get noticed you either have to be running anywhere near Shawna R. or maybe hit the pace car." 28. acerogers58 posted: 02.09.2020 - 10:39 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Per a major ARCA Facebook group, James Hylton (#12) never made a lap and was a withdrawal, the owner was Drew White. 29. She would go on to run a full season on the tour in 2000 before dabbling in NASCAR's higher levels again. Robinson's second was the best finish for a woman in any major ARCA series at this time with Erin Crocker and Hailie Deegan later matching it before Gracie Trotter broke through with a win in the new ARCA West series in 2020. 32. RaceFanX posted: 10.16.2020 - 10:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bobby Gerhart won this race driving an ex-Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, nicknamed "Dusty" it was the first in-house chassis the team ever built and had a racing pedigree that included being the car that Greg Sacks finished second at Talladega driving back in 1990 then set off the big one on Lap 1 in that year's Pepsi 400 after being the polesitter. The car ended up in ARCA from 1993 onward, getting upgraded from a Lumina to a Monte Carlo, with Gerhart being at least its third owner. Hendrick and Gerhart later had an alliance in the early 2000s and ultimately Rick Hendrick bought the car back and restored it to original condition, displaying it with Lumina body work and its original gray display scheme at his team's museum. The story of "Dusty" and several other neat NASCAR entries through the years is recounted in the first episode of nascarman's "Under the Sheet Metal" video series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAWoztZJFvo&feature=youtu.be ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
