I remember Billy Gerhardt just about screaming at an official. Apparently Gerhardt was one of the few who didn't pit and was on a lap of his own, The race end was in limbo when a yellow flew after the lead pack had taken the white flag. Keith's race winning car was powered by a Yates Engine. Earlier that same day, RYR swept the front row of the Daytona 500 with Dale Jarrett and Ricky Rudd. A race Jarrett would win from the pole. 16. Several companies were again considering sponsorship but were not sold on the ARCA series all together. Some went on to Winston Cup, Busch and IRL. The team decided to go to Daytona with the car owned by Robert Day in a fund raising effort for the World War Two National Monument logo on the hood . Mike and the team managed to put a fourth place finish into the books. The team would then merge with Smith/Peterson racing who did not have a driver nor a sponsor-but would share costs. A limited schedule was ran and Mike ended up 16th in the points standings. Mike and many of his crew members sat down to a meeting in Momence, Illinois where they elected to stick with Mike and come together and fund the effort out of their own pockets until a sponsorship was found or they were all broke. The team managed to field a car in Salem where Mike was taken out by another car in a crash and did not finish. The team finished in sixth place at Anderson. Charlotte proved to be a place where speed meant money and the car did not qualify. A car was fielded at Xenia where the budget caused a blown engine. Flat Rock proved disappointing when Mike and Kimmel were fighting for the lead and a lapped car got into Mike and blew a tire resulting in several lost laps. Michigan ended with a twenty-ninth place finish for Mike. https://web.archive.org/web/20040807002128/http://gicmotorsports.com:80/aboutmike.htm 22.
