Richeson qualified up front but his evening ended in a crash with the self-owned Dunkin' Donuts entry of ARCA veteran Mark Gibson off Turn 4. 10. rm posted: 03.08.2020 - 2:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) To the rear - 25, 53, 66, 95 - engine change; 4 - failure to keep pace 1 sponsor - America Online/York (no Racecakes that I could see) 4 sponsor - Cunningham Motorsports 5 sponsor - Cowart Racing 25 sponsor - John R. One of just three wins in 2001 for Kimmel where he didn't start from the pole, his 7 other victories that year all came from the top spot. The broadcast opened by saying that the biggest key to the race was just surviving, noting that in the fall race from the year prior there was a crash coming to take the green flag that resulted in one car never even making it to the line to begin the first lap. And boy was the FX crew correct, 16 cars were out of the race by lap 11. Simply limping your car around the track and staying out of trouble would have earned you a top 20 finish, with only 17 starters making it to the checkered flag. It looked like the field had gotten away with one when Kerry Earnhardt crashed to bring out the first caution and really didn't collect anyone who shouldn't have been involved, save for Donny Morelock spinning out when Earnhardt came back down the track. The same cannot be said for the next caution, which was the big crash. Josh Richeson was caught up in two of the first three cautions by just being in the wrong place in the wrong time, yet escaped mostly unscathed both times. Unfortunately for him, the third time was not the charm and he was knocked out of the race when he was part of the crash that brought out the fourth caution. Under the third caution, the broadcast showed a crew member hopping out of Larry Hollenbeck's car on pit road. While not a terribly common sight, it's not unheard of for crew guys to jump in the right side and work on something inside the car...though seeing a guy in short sleeves and no helmet doing so was sure a sight to behold! Not sure if that was really that acceptable at the time either, but it still blows my mind that an event like that could happen even just 20 years ago. Kimmel, Kirby, Lanigan and Swaim all ran the whole race without making a pitstop. 11.
