Newman ran an "ABC" schedule in 2001 with a pair of ARCA races accompanied by more races in NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Winston Cup competition before moving into Cup full-time in 2002; this would be his final ARCA start on his way up the ladder and his only one after he won the season opener at Daytona. Tim Steele was right behind Newman when the #27 crashed but backed off big time to avoid rear ending his opponent. The former 3-time champion would go on to finish third. Jason Jarrett overcame some blistering tire issues early in this race to come back and win it. 5. rm posted: 12.26.2018 - 4:08 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Attendance - 45,000 This was the second half of the opening weekend doubleheader for Kansas Speedway. There was a large bounty the speedway was offering if the same driver could win both the Winston West race on Saturday and the ARCA race on Sunday. Only Frank Kimmel and Austin Cameron wound up attempting both races, though, with Kimmel claiming the first ever race at the track. Kimmel came up one spot short of pulling off the double and taking home the big money on Sunday. Jason Jarrett passed him with 4 to go here as Kimmel's car suddenly fell off in the closing laps. 6. rm posted: 02.27.2020 - 11:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 7 owner - Doug Keller 51 owner - Andy Belmont (Same for the following race at Michigan) 75 sponsor - Hixson Construction Kevin Belmont was saddled with the misfortune of the start-and-park car actually breaking. A cracked header was the culprit, though on a positive note for the Belmont gang the 51 still finished ahead of 10 other cars. The problems plagued the backup car for the next two races until the crew could fully repair the motor...only for the primary car to have issues of its own at Memphis, three races later. 7. That trend didn't really reach the Cup Series until 2009 or so. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
