One photo showed a ladder peeking out of the trunk (a reference to Tony's Cup sponsorship from Home Depot), and the rear bumper cover looked more similar to a Ford Taurus. (The car was borrowed from Clement Racing, who was running Fords on the speedways that year.) Other photos showed the car clearly had Chevrolet headlight decals, but it appeared that the rear windows and grill had been taped off to hide the Ford lines and make it look like a Chevrolet. I believe they ran the car the next week at Salem with the same camouflage job. Naturally, GM would have thrown a fit if Stewart were in a Ford. It's the same way that Joey Logano ran one of the K&N Pro Series Showdowns in a Fadden Racing-prepared Chevy Monte Carlo/Impala. Except for the Toyota headlights, and Toyota decals on the bumper, and the way they kept calling it a Camry. 3. Stewart blamed a flat tire, Strait was not happy with that explanation. Strait did make sure to talk about how safe the open faced helmet & horsecollar was, rather than the HANS device, which broadcaster Bill Venturini took exception to - and rightfully so. Sixth caution was for the 28 spinning in turn 4 Three cautions weren't shown, no ticker meant no laps either. 8. Stewart asked Kimmel and his team to disguise the Ford as a Chevrolet for this race and using nothing but tape and decals as noted above they did a surprisingly convincing job. 9. Apparently an ARCA driver or crew member suggested he should go do the DuQuoin race on Labor Day and noted Kimmel's team already had a car ready if he did. Right from the minute it was suggested Stewart was quickly checking with his PR guy to see if he had time and didn't have commitments that would have prevented being in this one. Stewart brought his own seat to fit in the #40 but that was about it, he had such a blast in this one he returned to run this race again in 2002 and 2003; winning in that third year. 10. rm posted: 12.26.2018 - 4:58 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 16 owner - Joe Cooksey 25 owner - Mark Thompson 79 owner - Charlie Schaefer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
