Atwood would place 31st in that event, 2 laps down, in what would ultimately be his final Cup race. 5. Evernham brought him back into one of the team's factory rides for this one, entering him in this race driving a R&D car for the team to test new equipment for its Cup squads in race conditions. The decision paid off as Casey brought his red-and-green #19 Dodge Dealers Intrepid home with the win after claiming the pole and dominating the event. The #19 team in this race was essentially the R&D #91 squad that Evernham occasionally entered in Cup races during this era. As Atwood took the wheel ARCA regular Jason Jarrett again had to settle for second place. This was his fourth, and final, runner-up finish of the season and the #67 team would ultimately find the gates to victory lane locked all year. Jarrett took the defeat in pride noting that anytime guys in this series got to race a Cup driver it would help make them better. 6. Atwood got a big laugh from the press conference crowd when he responded "I just like to win," highlight he wanted to win no matter what the series. While Atwood was still hopeful at the time he would become a winner in the Cup series that never came to pass and this ultimately proved to be his last major victory in stock car racing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
