He won later in 2003 at Kentucky and then at Daytona the next year. Besides his three wins, his finishes in his other five career ARCA starts were 11, 36, 25, 28, 17. His wins at Nashville and Kentucky came in his first two starts. He made seven starts before he turned 18 and ran a limited Busch schedule and then ran the race at Daytona to get experience for his Busch Series rookie-of-the-year and championship runner-up season of 2004. 2. Justin Ashburn spun out in a near carbon copy of Montgomery's incident after the first restart but that also went caution free. Just interesting, that's all. Patterson was involved in three incidents during the night, the final one coming with 20 to go and requiring a lengthy caution while he was assisted from his car. Young Jeremy Clements was making just his 4th start in ARCA when he spun out in turn 1 following a restart. Shelby Howard synchronized-spun with Clements and Howard's car was totaled when a spinning Aaron Call, tagged from behind by an unknown driver, slammed into Howard's stopped vehicle. Hideo Fukuyama was the focus of much attention during the race. The Japanese driver was garnering the praise of the announcers live on the air when he dove underneath Keith Murt in Turn 1 and wrecked both cars. Fukuyama was helped from his car and walked away with a notable limp, ending a day that had started so promising for him. 5. There were a lot of talks then about if the age should be lowered so Kyle Busch could drive in NASCAR. Kyle was around 17 at the time he was in ARCA, but he did drive some Busch Series races later in the season when he turned 18. I just remember there being a lot of controversy about that back then in '03, but now that's the norm, young kids are getting the opportunities like Kyle Busch did then. Also, good top ten run for ex-Falcons coach Jerry Glanville in this one. 6. Great run for Glanville, he was 61 at the time of this race and making his penultimate ARCA start. This was his final top-10 finish in the series. 7. (I feel silly missing Evan's mention of Glanville's good run in the post prior to mine.) 8. Very stingy with the caution flag for whatever reason that night. 11. At this time of this race he was running a handful of NASCAR Winston Cup races with the Travis Carter team with a couple of ARCA races also being part of the deal. This was the first of just two ARCA starts and four entries for the Kikkoman Soy Sauce driver. 14. rm posted: 05.10.2020 - 8:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 8 owner - Jamie Mosley (same at Kentucky) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
