Several IndyCar drivers, especially in the 1960s, DNQ'd their initial entries at the Indy 500 (or other races), hopped in another car, and won. Every IndyCar driver who ran more than 5 or 10 races in those days had to do a post-DNQ ride hop at some point in their career. 15. Brad Smith's car burst into flames on his cooldown lap in qualifying and he had to be airlifted to the hospital to treat his burns. That's how Menard & Petree wound up back in the show, and eventually victory lane. 19. Petree bought the spot for Menard, which based on the ARCA rules, makes Menard driving for Smith. This has happened in some NASCAR races as well. 29. Currently, the format for new races appears to be the listed owner (such as David Ragan driving for Rick Ware in the 2020 Daytona 500, even though the car was prepared by Front Row.) However, in the past, we've seen some owners on the site be the person who actually owned the car. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
