This was also his last top-10 in ARCA. 4. 1995z71 posted: 05.26.2012 - 3:04 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kirk would not be apart of another ARCA race for another five years. Returning at Daytona in 2008. Technically the gap starts after he DNQ'ed the following race. 5. RaceFanX posted: 01.12.2014 - 5:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Second-place finisher A.J. It was Ponstein's second and final top-5 in the series. 6. rob posted: 05.13.2014 - 5:31 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The strange finishing order was brought on by what turned out to be the race's final caution flag. All of the leaders pitted for what would be their only stop for fuel thinking the race would be restarted. The overcast skies emptied a few minutes later and the cars in the lead lap that had stayed out took over the top positions having gambled correctly. 7. rob posted: 05.13.2014 - 5:35 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) Note Clint Bowyer in Bobby Gerhart's car. The announcers make sure to point out how Busch is essentially in a Hendrick Winston Cup car, which Bowyer couldn't keep up with. Jim Pate had the door ripped off on the right side early on before piling into the final caution, while Chuck Hiers also crashed at the end in his debut. Hiers would run Daytona the following year before taking a 14-year hiatus from the series, returning to pair back up with Hillenburg to run Daytona again in 2018 (as well as, to date, the following two seasons too). 23. RaceFanX posted: 03.08.2020 - 9:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) A.J. Henriksen normally raced a #17 for his family team but for this race instead he got a black #17 CLR Ford Taurus from Ted Campbell's part-time ARCA and NASCAR Cup team. The one-off netted a good result as noted above he posted a career-best runner-up finish. Shelmerdine's winning Ford had the same blue, white, and yellow paint scheme as his Cup cars did in this era. Other than swapping the Naturally Fresh branding for sponsor Freddie B's and putting Hylton's #48 on it looked just like it did when it was used in Cup. Kyle Busch went from 30th to 6th in just 11 laps on his way to the lead early on in this one. He'd be leading by lap 26 but lose to Shelmerdine because of the rain. 24. rm posted: 03.09.2020 - 6:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sometimes Henriksen would race one of his team's regular cars with the CLR colors on it, other times he would race one of the CLR team's cars with his #17 on it. In this race for example he was running the same car that Kevin Lepage had turned heads with on the Cup side with some strong qualifying runs. Now as to how the Henriksens and Campbell decided which cars to use for which races, I'm kinda stumped on. It seems like generally at Charlotte or sometimes the plate tracks, the car came out of the Cup shop. Otherwise it was usually the normal Henriksen effort. 25. The Cubs were in the middle of the 2003 NLCS at the time, which they would (in)famously go on to lose to the Florida Marlins. While Billy gave the car a solid result - if not slightly unfulfilling, seeing as he was fourth among cars that made a pit stop before the lengthy, race-ending caution - the paint scheme never hit the track again. Why would that be? Well, according to Billy, they had approval from the Cubs to run the scheme but not Major League Baseball itself: https://twitter.com/BillyVenturini/status/1276338703070375936 Despite the potential legal issues, the Venturinis reached a deal to sell a diecast version of the car the next year, which apparently was eagerly anticipated by baseball fans and racing fans alike. Since then, the team has created their own version of the Cubs' "W Flag" used to celebrate victories, substituting the block W for a stylized V and flying the flag in victory lane after race wins. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
