Steele didn't retire immediately following this race. While testing his
late model at Toledo the following year, Steele crashed big all on his
own and couldn't bring himself to hop back in the car. A few weeks later
he retired, turning over the late model keys to a young Johnny VanDoorn
- a worthy successor, I'd say.

And she was the last car running at the finish that didn't spend
extended time in the "garage" to make repairs, 15 laps down. I think I
remember reading that she spun out 3 or 4 times in this one, though at
least a couple of them came courtesy of lead-lap cars that got impatient
while stuck behind her. Berlin is no easy place to make your stock car
debut - the last time that ARCA raced there, Scott Melton came home 16
laps down in his first-ever start.
