He still coasted across the line in third but it was too late to win. Clements made up for the heartbreak by winning the next ARCA race to finally pick up that elusive win. 3. He suffered injuries in a vicious crash in the tunnel turn. 5. 23andJoe posted: 05.06.2014 - 7:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Order of DNQs: 41. #36 Kaltreider 42. #8 Seevers 43. #0 W.Peterson 44. #10 Penaruiz 45. #44 Hedlesky 6. Cassill had one go down while he was leading the race, Kvapil had about four go down. 7. rm posted: 05.01.2017 - 9:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) First caution - laps 6-10 - 59 oil on track frontstretch Second caution - laps 13-16 - 65 accident turn 1 Third caution - laps 26-30 - 99 debris frontstretch; 02 slow short chute Fourth caution - laps 39-43 - 60 spun turn 1; 5 accident Long Pond Straight (simultaneous incidents - Gerhart may have run over some debris from the 60, caution was extended due to the 48 being stalled on the pit access road in turn 3) Fifth caution - laps 47-50 - 87 accident turn 1 Sixth caution - laps 53-56 - 02, 23 accident turn 2 Seventh caution - laps 58-61 - 07, 5, 6, 7, 25, 32, 39, 47, 60 accident (red flag, Gerhart broke a vertebrae in his neck and suffered nerve damage in his back in this crash and missed the rest of the 2007 season( Eighth caution - laps 64-67 - 11 accident turn 2 Ninth caution - laps 70-73 - 46, 50 accident turn 1 This puts it at 9 cautions for 39 laps, not 49 laps To the rear - 6, 34, 38, 48, 80, 94 - unapproved adjustments, 59 - engine change 3 crew chief - Glenn Clements (same for all 3 races in 2007) 60 crew chief - John Hayden (same for all races in 2007) 99 crew chief - Jeff Campey (same for all 99 races in 2007) Jeremy Clements needed his last tank of gas to last 135 miles, a nearly impossible feat. He managed to stretch it to about 134.5 miles, running out coming out of turn 3 on the final lap. Side note, a clip aired during this race on SPEED featured some SPEED personalities debating whether Kyle Busch's "these cars suck" comment about NASCAR's new COT was whining or telling it like it is...is it possible for it to be both? 8. rm posted: 04.28.2020 - 11:37 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) 34 sponsor - Darrell Basham 200th Start Darrell's 200th start dating back to 1972, though he took quite a bit of time off at points to focus on his business. Since then, he's added to that total quite a bit and his ARCA career now spans 340 races over 48 years. He also has the distinction of being part of what is almost certainly a very exclusive club - a stock car driver who has raced both a Mercury and a Toyota. 9. rm posted: 04.28.2020 - 12:50 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Apologies for the double post, just wanted to add that some admittedly very hasty research shows Davey Allison and Dale Jarrett as drivers who also ran both Mercury and Toyota, stemming from their career beginnings in the old Dash series. Derrike Cope could be another addition to that list, depending on if you count his unusual 1993 Talladega test session in a Mercury as part of this running total. Jeremy Clements inherited the lead by staying out and trying to stretch his fuel window to the end of the race. Wendy Venturini delivered the report from the #3 team's pit and was immediately skeptical of the team's claims, saying that while she was only doing the math in her head and not on a calculator, she was pretty sure that they couldn't make it to the end. Up in the booth, Rick Allen and Phil Parsons agreed, with the added benefit of having calculators at their disposal. During the red flag, fellow pit reporter and skeptic Jim Tretow went on down to interview Glenn Clements - Jeremy's dad and crew chief - who doubled down and maintained that they'd be more than fine on fuel. Under the next caution, the team continued to insist they wouldn't run out of fuel by showing their lap chart to the TV crew. Well, spoiler alert: they ran out of fuel, though they lasted until turn 3 on the final lap. Maybe, just maybe, the SPEED team was onto something, Glenn, when all four of them disagreed with his math. They would pick up the win the very next weekend, so all's well that ends well for the Clements bunch. 10. Five of his six ARCA starts were here at Pocono. 11. rm posted: 04.28.2020 - 2:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) One last note, sorry...Glenn Clements is Jeremy's uncle, Tony Clements is Jeremy's father, have to correct myself there. Glenn was indeed the crew chief though. 12. possum posted: 04.28.2020 - 6:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @9 - I am mildly astounded that anyone managed to run both a Mercury and a Toyota, let alone do it in a full-size car (it's moderately less surprising if you include the Dash series). However I can't find any evidence that either Allison or Jarrett ever ran a Mercury. Details? 13. rm posted: 04.28.2020 - 9:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jarrett's was from this race: https://www.thethirdturn.com/wiki/Baby_Grand:1979-13 And turns out the page I found that listed Davey as driving a Mercury looks like it's incorrect, double-checking it against both this site and the Third Turn shows that he ran a Matador and not a Mercury. So strike Davey from the (very) shortlist after all. 14. Spen posted: 04.29.2020 - 1:37 am Rate this comment: (3) (0) Bill Elliott and Morgan Shepherd drove both Mercury and Toyota in Cup. DW ran a Mercury in Cup and a Toyota in Trucks. Pretty sure Hershel McGriff's the only one with both Plymouth and Toyota, though. 15. possum posted: 04.29.2020 - 6:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @13 - thanks! And I'd be willing to bet Allison is the only guy to run both an AMC and a Toyota in stock cars (or any sort of cars, really, given how rare an AMC racecar is outside drag racing). 16. Onion posted: 04.29.2020 - 6:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think you are forgetting an entire discipline of motorsports with that comment Possum. AMCs were not exceedingly rare sights in sports car and touring car races up until the early 80's, which is when Toyota started having a more significant presence in sportscars. George Follmer for example was a works driver for both AMC (1968) and Toyota (1981) in sportscars. 17. possum posted: 04.30.2020 - 8:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @16 - well, I stand corrected. My memory really doesn't bring up any AMCs in sportscar racing, but my memory isn't what it was (and even then it wasn't what it could be). I have a friend who dragged an AMX, and you used to see those and Gremlins quite a bit on the strip, but outside that Penske's Cup cars are the only AMCs that come to mind. 18. KW posted: 04.30.2020 - 9:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) AMC ran a lot of Trans Am early, Jim Paschal won a bunch of NASCAR Grand American/Grand Touring races in an AMC and there were a lot of Gremlin bodied modifieds in the '70's. 19.
