The story goes squarely on the shoulders of Bobby Gerhart, who has won his 6th race at Daytona. Very underrated driver, and great on speedways...last year he was in a Grand National race at Talledega and had a car that could have won if not for an unfortunate accident. You all can talk about Racing Barbie if you want, and she did do a decent job, but Bobby is the man right now. 2. Also Frank Kimmel finishes a disappointing 25th, and trying to be a championship contender this year. 3. There aren't that many rational people on here. :P She did what the car was capable of doing, she didn't push the issue until it was time too go. And she didn't settle for 5th, she went for the win. She made me eat my words about her being crashed out by lap 40. Alli Owens did well also, she would have finished aleast 2nd too Bobby G. but in the she got shuffled out of line toward the end. 5. She still did a great job. I sure hope the announcers in the Nationwide Series races don't mention Danica's name as much as the SPEED announcers did for this race, I was really getting tired of it in a hurry. 7. RaceFanX posted: 02.07.2010 - 11:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Erin Crocker actually was pretty good, she won in the World of Outlaws. It was off-track actions that doomed her career. Jill George got upside down hard early in this one with a flip up the track that resulted in a roof-first plow into the wall that knocked the whole front end up to the engine off her car. The chiropractor from Iowa was uninjured but the wreck damaged the catch fence and brought out the red flag. Barry Fitzgerald flipped side-over-side several times down the backstretch after a spin got air under his car. James Buescher had the dominant car early but lost the lead to Gerhart thanks to pit strategy. Ex-F1 racer Nelson Piquet Jr. ran in the top-10 early but fell behind and never recovered after his car failed to restart following the red flag for George's crash. The big one stuck on lap 7 and despite all the rookies in the field actually started when former ARCA champion Bill Baird blew a tire and crashed in turn two with Steve Blackburn. What should have been a small wreck became a big one in traditional ARCA Daytona fashion as inexperienced drivers didn't slow down in time and became involved. Among those who piled in was ex-NASCAR.com correspondent Leilani Munter, making her ARCA debut. In all the hype over the debut of Danica Patrick, fellow female IRL racer Milka Duno also makes her stock car debut but couldn't even get on camera. The Rolling Roadblock was actually starting to move up when she crashed out early in the Baird wreck and except in passing when refering to the other five female drivers or the wreck was not mentioned or shown during the broadcast. 11. Attaboy Bobby Gerhart, scores his sixth win at Daytona...along with Mark Martin winning the Pole for the 500 it's been a good speedweeks so far for drivers over 50. 12. Heh, prepare to be REALLY tired of it. I still say Alli Owens is the best female driver right now. She ran third for a long time, but once she got shuffled out, her car couldn't even draft with the pack, that's how bad it was. The Go Daddy Girl had a HMS car. 13. HDog posted: 02.08.2010 - 12:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hey DaleSrFanForever- John Wes Townley was driving the same stuff as Alli Owens. Venturini is top of the line in ARCA. Also, Danica's car was an ex-DEI Nationwide car from 06-07. Jr bought the chassis because their other ARCA SS car had gotten wrecked by Marc Davis when Landon Cassill was driving it. I went into this race expecting Danica to be wrecked by lap 43, but she really impressed me. Unlike most of the cars in the field, she had a lot of awareness and was smart. Jennifer Jo Cobb probably deserves more credit than Alli Owens, as she avoided all the mayhem and brought home 17th in an extremely uncompetitive car. Alli only shines on tracks where the car will take over for the driver. She only runs up front at SuperSpeedways in top of the line stuff. Funny how she rarely finishes there, though... 15. Oh, and for those of you who bitch about the attention Danica's getting, you might have to get used to it... http://sportsmediawatch.blogspot.com/2010/02/danicamania-boosts-arca-ratings.html "Last Saturday's ARCA Series race from Daytona drew a 1.6 U.S. rating (2.3 cable) and 2.6 million viewers on Speed Channel, up 78% and 87%, respectively, from last year's comparable race (0.9 U.S., 1.45 cable, 1.3 mil). The race stands as the highest rated ARCA telecast ever, and the highest rated race of any kind in Speed TV history, excluding the network's annual coverage of the NASCAR All-Star Race. To put the numbers in perspective, the race drew more viewers than Daytona 500 Qualifying on FOX that same day (2.4 mil) -- despite FOX being in nearly 40 million more households than Speed Channel. Moreover, the telecast was the highest rated, most-viewed sporting event of the week on cable -- topping NBA and college basketball games -- and the third-most viewed sporting event of the week on any network. Amazingly, the ARCA telecast on Speed Channel drew more viewers than the final round of the Northern Trust Open on NBC (2.5 mil) and Magic/Celtics on ABC (2.5 mil)." 27.
