Everyone hugged the yellow line all race, nobody even tried the high line. 3. This friggin' race is the only thing Gerhart ever wins! And almost every time, it's because they guy right behind him doesn't know how to/or dare to make a move. Weak. 4. I'm sure if one of you big talkers had been in that position you'd have won the race. Gerhart always wins this race because he always outsmarts the others on pit strategy. Thanks to the yellow line rule, once a car gets out front it's impossible to pass it without three or four guys lining up on the high line. No one is ever willing to try that until there is half a lap to go and then it's too late. 7. One lead change for a restrictor plate race, disappointing. 8. Alex posted: 02.13.2011 - 12:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Absolutely pathetic. This stuff happens every year. The drivers need to start showing some confidence. The only reason Gerhart wins all these races is because no one wants to pass him. Drivers need to stop being in awe of his "dominance" or scared of messing up and start growing balls. 9. Anonymous posted: 02.13.2011 - 12:44 am Rate this comment: (1) (1) I think each of the 43 drivers that raced in this race have more balls than all of the people sitting behind their computers telling them how to drive put together. 10. RaceFanX posted: 02.13.2011 - 1:14 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Milka Duno of all drivers actually had a pretty good run in this one, especially for a moonlighting IndyCar racer in a stock car. Driving for defending ARCA champ Patrick Sheltra, Duno manged to dodge Tom Hessert III's incident in the early laps and ran in the top-half of the field before being collected in the Big One. The big one was triggered when Hal Martin's red #55 Toyota blew a tire and his teammate Steve Arpin cut down trying to miss him but got into to Duno. The contact triggered a multi-car crash. Nick Igdalsky #23 caught a little air after contact with Bryan Silas' #11, the white car landing on top of the black one briefly. Benny Chastain almost made it through the accident only to have Steve Blackburn's wrecked black #68 end up in the path of his slowed red #75, he couldn't stop in time and was knocked out of the race by the slower (but still decent speed) collision. The Big One also collected Maryeve Dufault, in her ARCA and oval-track stock car debut. The ageless wonder James Hylton finishes in the top-20 and on the lead lap at Daytona. Not bad for the 1972 Talladega 500 winner who kept his nose clean all day. Despite the Big One most of the day's wrecks, including Hackenbracht going roof first into the Turn 4 wall to bring out a red flag, were single-car mishaps. This race was relatively clean for an ARCA race at Daytona. Is Chris Buescher running for the ARCA title this year? If so his decision not to make the move may be a good one. Points wise it's better to take second than get shuffled back to sixth. With ARCA not going back to Palm Beach International or Texas this year the series is now off until their mid-April race at Talladega. This might be the first time ARCA runs two restrictor plate races in a row and surely the first time they have opened the season doing such. 11. joey2448 posted: 02.13.2011 - 2:22 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I agree with post #3....Chris Buescher didn't even try to pass Bobby Gerhart in the final laps. And I sure as hell wouldn't let a chance to take the win at Daytona (in any series).......I'd be doing EVERYTHING in my power to make it happen, not tucking back in line and wussing my way to a runner-up finish. These guys, young or old, are SUPPOSEDLY out there to win, and when a competitor has a shot at taking the win and completely wusses out, I'm gonna call 'em on it. I'm not gonna sit here and say shit like "I'd have made the move, for sure". What I AM saying is that if I'd had the opportunities to pass like Buescher did, I'd have AT LEAST tried. 19. This kind of thinking pisses me off. As if because, we're not the drivers, we don't get to have an opinion. You know what, by buying tickets to the races, buying the merch, supporting the sponsors, etc., we make it possible for those guys to do what they do. And if they don't put on an exciting show, then they (Chris Buescher and the rest) deserve to get their asses handed to them. 21. It's Daytona, a famuos track with a long list of winners why not add your name to that list? Smiff said it best, if you have so many chances to win a race (especially at Daytona of all places) why not go for it. #17 had so many chances to pass him that he SHOULD have. Taking 2nd with so many chances to win is a pile of bullcrap. 22. Anonymous posted: 02.15.2011 - 2:29 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "And if they don't put on an exciting show, then they (Chris Buescher and the rest) deserve to get their asses handed to them." You can put on one heck of a show driving like an idiot and tearing up equipment, and you won't be in the series for long. Drivers gotta look out for themselves. They race for their car owners and themselves, not the fans. Odds are Buescher knew he was gonna get trained by the 4 cars behind him and didn't have enough momentum to complete and outside pass. It was obvious that he did make a few attempts to muscle Gerhart up the track, but in doing so, he halted his own momentum or slid up with Gerhart and couldn't complete the pass. The amount of criticism this kid is getting is absurd. Go watch the ARCA Daytona tapes for the last few years. You always want to be out front because the outside doesn't go anywhere unless you have a LINE of cars following you. With Buescher, he didn't have that. 23. Smiff_99 posted: 02.15.2011 - 12:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Well, first of all, the kid isn't getting any criticism. I'm just a random fan bitching on a website. Chris Buescher isn't gonna be reading this. My main point is that these guys are professional racers......they're objective is to WIN. I'm not saying he should've dumped the guy......but he DID have at least 3 legitmate chances to make a pass, but he just tucked back in. This is RACING.......you've at least got to TRY to make something happen. 24. Chris Buescher isn't gonna be reading this." Um, he doesn't need to hear it firsthand for it to be considered criticism in his direction. He did try to make it happen, he didn't have anyone that was actually gonna get him the lead on the outside. At one point he used up Gerhart's bumper for practically an entire lap, and shoved him up the track in 3 & 4, but in doing so lost all of his own momentum and wasn't able to get underneath him because he lost the nose too. Of course all these racing "experts" just think it's because he let off or something and just decided to run 2nd. This is SS racing... you get this all the time when you don't have help on the high line. ARCA races at Daytona have been like this for years. How many cars worked with the 77 when he dove high? ZERO. And he lost 3 spots because of it. Chris had no help to get to the lead so he was trying to muscle his way low, messed up, and he took 2nd over 6th. I guess it would constitute trying if he jumped out high with no help and finished four positions worse than where he ended up. Now that'd be brilliant race car driving... 25. 00andJoe posted: 02.26.2011 - 11:55 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Buescher made the smart move. It might have been noticed that the few times he did start to take a peek outside, the 32 never made a move to go with him (except for, as I recall, the one time the 32 itself looked). It was pretty obvious, though, that the outside was a non-starter even for two cars. Finish second at Daytona for sure by staying in line, or have a 98% chance of being shuffled back to sixth at best by pulling out to try to pass Gerhart? Unless your name is Han Solo, those are odds that call for staying in line. 26. RoushFan posted: 03.03.2011 - 10:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't know about you, but if I was driver, I would take a 2% chance to win at Daytona over a sure 2nd place finish any day. The sport is all about winning, and if you get the opportunity to win there is no reason not to take it even if it's almost completely hopeless. 27. 00andJoe posted: 03.10.2011 - 5:00 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ah, but I didn't say the remaining 2% was to win. ;) That was 98% getting shuffled back to sixth, 2% holding position, and <0.00000000001% getting past Gerhart by my estimation. 28.
