Iowa is a great track for side-by-side racing, and it seemed like there were almost always battles for position on the track. 3. That lead promptly evaporated when he blew a tire and hit the wall to bring out the first caution. His team tried to repair it and keep him on the lead lap, only 10 cars were at the time, but the damage was too much and Poole lost several laps on the track after the restart, eventually bringing out the second caution en route to a 28th-place finish as the last car running. 4. It's Gallagher's third finish of 8th or better in the last four races. 5. Brennan Poole wouldn't be the last young driver pushing it too hard as the leader in a long early-race green flag run at Iowa and wrecking as a result. In 2016, Kyle Weatherman set a torrid pace of his own at Iowa, leading 45 laps and lapping much of the field until he too cooked his tires and brought out the first caution on lap 86. Weatherman was able to rally back for a top ten in that race, while Poole was resigned to 28th place here. Ouch. The 66 & 90 cars both had in-car cameras for this race. Provided some unparalleled views of the rest of the field speeding past them to lap them. There's something unusually funny about the onboard view of Canache nearly taking out one of his teammates that was going around to lap him at one point, especially when the teammate in question is Tom Berte (!!!). Some ominous foreshadowing: Phil Parsons told a story from the booth about running into Chad Boat's father-slash-car-owner, IndyCar vet Billy Boat, before the race with Billy relaying the reasons why he'd rather have Chad make his series debut at a track like Iowa instead of an intermediate mile-and-a-half. Billy seemed hesitant to have Chad make a start at a 1.5-miler despite Chad being eligible immediately to run at a track that large. Well, sure enough, Chad about qualified for his pilot's license on lap 2 of his intermediate debut at Kansas in the fall. Guess Dad was onto something! Finally, from the land of extremely obscure and largely irrelevant statistics: 6 drivers in this race have driven for Andy Hillenburg, and 5 of them finished between 20th and 26th here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
