Those 2 have some sort of a connection between them. 12. Paul posted: 06.09.2013 - 12:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Erik Jones was catching Chase Elliott in the final laps, gaining a little over a second in two laps and being just one second behind with two laps to go, but lost some time after being slowed up by the lapped car of George Cushman in turn 1 with two laps to go and couldn't regain that lost time on Elliott. The winners of the previous three ARCA races were 51-year old Frank Kimmel and 57-year old Ken Schrader. This win by 17-year old Chase Elliott put youth in the ARCA victory circle for the first time in quite a while. In fact, the combined age of the top two finishers Elliott and Jones is 34 years old, which is 17 years younger than the age of 3rd place finisher and points leader Frank Kimmel. And all three of those drivers led between 20 and 22 laps in this race, with the elder Kimmel leading the most laps. Only in ARCA could you see drivers with such a large age difference run so competitively in the same race. A.J. Henriksen makes his first ARCA start since Pocono last August, finishing in 7th place, his best ARCA finish since Pocono in 2006. I was pulling for him to get his first ARCA victory, but I'll settle for a solid top ten finish for the veteran. Buster Graham spun out on the straightaway and hit the outside wall head-on (albeit at a slow speed by over-correcting the car after spinning out), and still managed to finish in 13th place. I hate that Will Kimmel crashed out so early after getting a rare opportunity in competitive equipment (his first ARCA start for a non-family team since 2010), especially after qualifying a career best 3rd place (his previous best was 8th place). Supposedly, Kimmel took over the #69 car from Chris Bailey, Jr. during the race's 2nd caution period, bringing the family car home in 23rd place. James Hylton finishes his first ARCA race since Daytona earlier this season. 14. Wednesday's test session was the only true practice for this race, as Friday was completely rained out and this mornings "practice" was run under yellow." He had three top-5s in six earlier ARCA starts before he sealed the deal here. Both he and runner-up Erik Jones went on to be Cup Series winners later in the decade. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
