Brad Smith had a brutal crash into the inside wall that sent him to the hospital. Self, Kimmel, Enfinger, Campbell all had hard hits in accidents. Special shoutout to FS1 for giving virtually zero postrace coverage, and interviewing Jones while he was still in his car so that they could quickly cut back to the studio for the next show. 2. Has a ride because of sponsorship, and 0 wins in 13 starts with Venturini so far. Plus, he was one of the only drivers to not show up to the autograph session at IRP last year (along with John Wes Townley) 4. All of them get their first career Top 10's in ARCA competition. Not to mention Blake Jones, first win in only his 2nd start. Very impressive. Heartbreak for Hessert, must've missed a shift, cost him the victory 8. CBASS posted: 05.01.2015 - 11:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hessert ran out of fuel 9. No word why, but here he's listed out with electrical issues. 11. joey2448 posted: 05.02.2015 - 5:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Blake Jones tallies his first career ARCA victory when race dominator Tom Hessert runs out of fuel on a one-lap restart shootout (didn't know they did that in ARCA?). The restart was set up when Josh Williams spun out exiting the tri-oval as the field took the white flag. Just seconds before, Bobby Gerhart ducked down pit road at full speed for some unknown reason (as mentioned here, electrical). A very scary moment occurred on lap 52 when Brad Smith t-boned the spinning car of Austin Wayne Self in the tri-oval, which sent Smith on a trajectory towards the inside wall. Smith took an absolutely vicious hit (very similar to Kyle Busch's hit in the Xfinity race at Daytona in February) off the wall and continued up the turn 1 banking and back down to the inside wall. Smith was helicoptered to a nearby hospital, but otherwise looked to be okay. Thank god for those safer barriers. Another hard hit came soon after with 10 laps to go, when points leader Grant Enfinger was turned in the middle of the backstretch, hit the outside wall and collected Will Kimmel, who then in turn was nailed by Clay Campbell. Cody Coughlin also won his first career ARCA pole, which I believe was done through group qualifying. 12. However, there is nothing medicine can do about Clay Campbell's case of ARCA brakes. 13. Not sure if this is the reason for Carter to be in jail again. 23. While Peterson's crew did help out, Fitzgerald should probably be listed as the owner. 24. He was with the lead draft for the first 20 laps until the pack fractured into a few smaller groups and even then, Smith was still hanging around the back of that bunch. Even his pre-race release that went out mentioned how Smith & the Hylton bunch thought Brad had a good piece for the race! I'm trying to find a good comparison for how unusual it would have been to see Brad doing so well, but I'm really lost on that. Brad had a pretty bad fracture of his left ankle, he had to have skin graft surgeries and wound up out of commission for a while. Brad did come back to do some start and parks to open the 2016 season, but didn't want to attempt a full race until almost one whole year after his crash here. 23 crew chief - Kelly Kovski 52 crew chief - Donnie Richeson 55 crew chief - David Leiner 69 crew chief - Bill Kimmel Jr. 77 crew chief - Chad Bryant 29.
