I feel like a lot of the time ARCA at Talladega and Daytona is single-file, follow the leader, but this was a highly competitive race. Congrats to Gus Dean on a good win. 3. Was announced on the (ultimately) final restart that with severe weather moving in, the next caution would end the race, and it did. Williams was initially shown as the winner, but replay review showed that Dean was ahead at the time of the accident. 6. Mike Daly posted: 04.29.2016 - 9:41 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) This was more than just fairly exciting - this was astonishing - the battle for the lead never really relaxed. The opening ten laps when Dean and Hessert were sidedrafting literally every lap set the tone. I also noticed some push-drafting, always a good thing for passing. I can't even get mad that the outcome was determined by a scoring loop instead of racing to the stripe (which here they absolutely could have done). Past ARCA at the plate tracks wasn't as competitive as they should be - this race showed how great ARCA can be. 7. Townley was the ARCA points leader coming in. Like everyone said, surprisingly great racing all day for an ARCA race. The event was caller short by two laps due to impending darkness, which begs the question, why is ARCA starting this race so late anyway? I mean, there were no lengthy delays, and only a few cautions. The last wreck of the evening, which caused ARCA to immediately throw the checkered flag, started when Matt Kurzejewski turned Dustin Knowles down the backstretch. Bobby Gerhart and Korbin Forrister both took pretty hard hits to the inside wall at the entrance to turn 3, and for a while, I was concerned about Gerhart, because he took a long time to get out of the car, which came to a rest in the grass in turns 3 and 4 after briefly catching fire. Apparently, he was fine, though, as they announced him being released from the care center in short order. 10. He was gaining ground on the inside when the yellow came out. Gus Dean wound up leading by a couple of feet when the yellow lights came on. 11. joey2448 posted: 04.30.2016 - 4:52 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) After his wreck into the outside backstretch wall that ended the race prematurely, Dustin Knowles had a comical interview for FS1 when describing his crash, saying he was "doing more donuts than Krispy Kreme puts out in a year." Haha! 12. The Real Thomas posted: 04.30.2016 - 5:14 am Rate this comment: (1) (3) No excuse for the way this one finished (or didn't finish). As early as 2006, they've been starting this race way too late in the day on Friday for a track like Talladega that doesn't have lights. I never heard them make an announcement on the broadcast that the race would end prematurely at the next caution, but maybe I just missed it. I also didn't hear anything about the condition of the drivers, but that's partially because I angrily turned off the disc after the lame replays they were showing and I had no desire to hear the victory lane interview. However, as others mentioned, I wouldn't have even cared about the finish if the race had been as boring as the last 8 or so ARCA restrictor plate races, but I'm pretty sure that's just dumb luck, and not necessarily due to something good that ARCA did to improve the competition. 13. Smiff_2 posted: 04.30.2016 - 8:35 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) Three things: 1) The racing was shockingly competitive all day. The same thing happened at Daytona for the first 50 laps of *that* race, but after a couple of wrecks, everybody cooled down and stayed in line the rest of the way. At Talladega, however, they mixed it up in spectacular fashion right until the end. 2) Fox Sports 1 has some of the shittiest racing coverage I have ever had the displeasure of watching. Between shitty-ass replays that miss what caused the trouble (which have been extremely common in the Cup races this year), close up shots that cut out most of the pack of cars, and commercial oversaturation, this race was TOUGH to watch in spite of all the great action. Seriously, they went to commercial on lap 30...came back on lap 34....and then proceeded to go back to commercial on lap 37. That is utterly shameful. 3) It is utterly stupid that they start this race so late in the day. 4) Fox Sports 1 made NO mention of ARCA calling the race in the event of a caution after the final restart with 4 to go. In fact, just before that restart, they were boasting about how ARCA rules dictate that the race must finish under green no matter what. Soon thereafter, they were eating a healthy amount of crow after ARCA spontaneously decided to call it. In spite of all that negativity, I must say again that it was a spectacular race. I can't recall EVER seeing 4 wide racing in the ARCA series that didn't result in a wreck lol. Great job by all the drivers and congratulations to Gus Dean. 16. ARCA and Fox are trying to maximize ratings by starting the race when east coast viewers will be home from work. We may not like it but financial realities can't be ignored. You might as well say it is utterly stupid that Talledega doesn't have lights. 19. It isn't just FS1, FOX as a whole is terrible at covering races. General opinion in Cup is the racing is as good as it ever has been. But coverage is god awful. FOX hasn't changed the way they cover races since they began covering NASCAR in 2001. Yeah Jeff Gordon is the booth, which is an improvement. But we still have the Waltrips. FOX is really doing their best too suck the life out of NASCAR and anything they cover. The US Open in 2015 was awful too watch. Greg Norman is great but my god it is almost unwatchable. Who ever thought Joe Buck would be great as a golf commentator needs their head examined. 27.
