Between the low car counts, all the really old folks having no business being on any racetrack-especially a speedway, the lack of a minimum speed (or a very relaxed one, say 20mph off pace), a bunch of drivers who don't pay attention so you get the traditional "ARCA Crashes" where a 1 or 2 car crash ends up being a 6+ car affair often involving backmarkers who just don't know what they are doing, only 4 competitive full time drivers, but one of them gets the honor of being the champion. 3. rm posted: 10.15.2016 - 9:47 am Rate this comment: (4) (1) Don't even know where to start with #2 so I'll just ignore what I sure hope is a troll. Anyway, Briscoe locked up the championship just by showing up to the track and won the race for good measure. Dalton Sargeant had electrical issues twice causing the car to shut off while running, including one time while holding a narrow lead over Briscoe and Townley. The big story though was the large accident that started off a restart when Sargeant and Briscoe made contact running for the lead going into the first turn. Briscoe got loose, hitting Austin Cindric and Myatt Snider. Going into three, Snider got loose underneath Briscoe in a 4-wide situation and spun. Gus Dean smacked the wall avoiding Snider's sliding car but it got ugly from there. Mike Basham, Kyle Weatherman and Bret Holmes piled in, with Weatherman t-boning Snider just in front of where Snider was sitting. Weatherman was then tagged by Morgen Baird and Nick Higdon, getting some huge air from where Higdon hit on the rear end. Weatherman limped to the ambulance and was transferred to a local hospital but wound up being ok luckily. DNF reasons: 33, 23, 22, 10, 08: accident. A lot of fast part time cars were going to start way in the back but wound up moving up quite a few rows, I lost track of everyone who dropped to the rear or came to the pits before the green. I'm very glad Kyle Weatherman is OK, that was a scary hit he took into the 22 car. 6. They talked about the Scherer's #99 and Cunningham's #77 cars basically being teammates after Snider wrecked in Scherer's #22. 10. RaceFanX posted: 10.15.2016 - 11:31 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Myatt Snider set off the big one on when he spun in turn 3 after contact with Chase Briscoe. The red #22 didn't get the wall but Kyle Weatherman and his #10 plowed into the front-left of his car at speed after being hit by Bret Holmes' #23, sending the #22 spinning into the wall. Weatherman caught a little air in the first impact then got more air after his car got pinched between Morgen Baird's spinning #14 and Nick Higdon's #08 after Higdon rear-ended him. The wreck brought out a red flag. Gus Dean hit the outside wall to miss the wreck but snicked through. Michael Self, making his lone ARCA start of the year, had a cool Sinclair Oil sponsorship on his #28 Chevy. The car had a green-and-white color scheme with the brand's famous dinosaur on the hood. The former NASCAR West standout finished third to claim his first ARCA top-5 and top-10 run. This was Self's first ARCA race in over two years. 11. rm posted: 10.15.2016 - 12:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Interesting to note that Dean's 33 had no visible damage after scraping the wall in the big wreck. I do not remember if they pit or not - I don't think that they did - but when they showed the car on TV the letters were all rubbed off on the right side tires. Sure enough just a couple laps later he either cut a tire or broke something on the car, no doubt related to smacking the wall trying to avoid Snider's car. 12. And if I am a troll for having a minor opinion, then fine by me. The car counts are bad. There is apparently no minimum speed. Drivers like Mike Senica and Con Nicolopoulos are apparently allowed to run around 6 seconds a lap off pace, and swerve their cars off the bottom lane when much faster cars are lapping past. You have owners like Wayne Hixson and Wayne Peterson who brings absolute junk to the track. And only a handful of full time guys who actually want to compete for the championship. Over on the Xfinity race pages, you all bitch and complain about how that series is sucking...well...at least some fans show up to those races, owners can actually get paid, and you have several drivers worthy of a championship. The only two good things about ARCA right now is: 1.) Composite Bodies - these cars look and race well. 2.) Race Venues - arca has a terrific mix of short tracks, speedways, road courses and dirt races. Too bad nobody cars to run the short tracks, road courses or dirt races. 19. Alex posted: 10.16.2016 - 11:22 am Rate this comment: (3) (0) ARCA is pretty much the SCCA of stock car racing and has been for the past 40 years. No one debates that. The only difference is we no longer have the stories like Dawayne Bryan anymore. 20. JSPorts posted: 10.16.2016 - 12:41 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) The car counts are down, but still having 35 cars in a race is pretty good. The quality of the cars could be better, of course. I don't understand why people attack owners and drivers who are doing their best to just show up at the track and compete. You complain about the car counts, and then complain about these owners bringing cars to the track that are too slow for your liking. I respect someone like Wayne Peterson, who does his best to just bring equipment that these guys can race to the track every week. 21. 02Justin10 posted: 10.16.2016 - 1:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (4) "...complain about these owners bringing cars to the track that are too slow for your liking..." If you are going to show up with absolute, slow junk, then pull off the track early and stay off of it! If you rewatch the race from Kansas, both Senica and Nicolopoulos were really slow and not even holding their own line! As a matter of fact, Mike Senica drove up the track and made contact with someone's left rear as they were going by! Earlier this year in Winchester...Senica and Nicolopoulos kept pulling on and off the track. They would randomly sit in the infield and sit...and sit...then randomly pull back onto the track to run 6 seconds a lap off the pace (again). As another matter of fact, Senica went back onto the track after sitting in the infield...and spun and brought a caution out! No...its not just about being too slow for my personal liking, its about having the decency to know when you are better off starting the race, and finding the garage before you are ever getting lapped the first time. And if ARCA isn't going to mandate that slow cars be removed from the race, then those rolling hazards will just continue to parade around. 22. rw posted: 10.16.2016 - 8:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I've been posting as this name for as long as I can remember, :P 23. Greene945 posted: 11.29.2016 - 6:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't usually post on the site, but I think I might have an answer for your question, Maverick19. In previous years, the race was sponsored by a local radio station with the frequency 98.9. Since a race can't be 98.9 laps, the number was rounded up and the ARCA finale was 99 laps. Since the race wasn't affiliated with the station in 2016, the amount of laps was rounded up to a normal total of 100 laps. Just a guess. I have to agree, though. Having 99 laps for a race can change the eventual outcome of the event and it provides a way for the sponsor to feel a connection to the race, just like New Hampshire's 301 lap races. 25. The cars were coming out of the Fast Track shop and being worked on by that team, save for the hired guns that were the pit crew when Weatherman was running. If a Weatherman absolutely had to be listed as the car owner, it should be Daryn, Kyle (And Clayton)'s father. 37.
