Burton's victory comes in both his first start of the 2017 season and the first ARCA race he ever led. 2. Mark Meunier was a moving chicane, Dippel absolutely threw him under the bus in his interview. Solid lead lap series debut for Natalie Decker as well. 4. rm posted: 05.21.2017 - 11:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 33 owner - Terry Jones 41 owner - Matthew Miller Everyone from the 3 on down was out of the race 22 status - crash/accident Pretty sure the 3, 46 & 69 all parked it due to something related to their crashes but not certain 10 sponsor - Le-Vel/DeVilbiss Since they took time in practice, which wound up setting the starting lineup for the race, ARCA is listing the 80 and 04 as DNS. For those unaware, Brian Finney's 80 car caught fire during practice and pretty much burnt to a crisp before it was finally extinguished. Finney withdrew his other team car, the 04 of Scott Reeves, in protest. Finney's 80 Chevy should be 28th with sponsor Bob Steele Chevrolet and Reeves's 04 Chevy should be 29th with sponsor 28 Degrees Brewing. I'll post crew chiefs tomorrow. Next up for ARCA is the shortest track on the schedule in Elko. If you thought the Salem entry list was light, wait until you see how many teams make the trip out to Minnesota. From what I've heard they might not break 20, though to be fair the track can't hold many more than that anyway. 5. They purchased a car from Lira last season. 6. rm posted: 05.22.2017 - 1:51 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Finally got a chance to look at my notes and watch the broadcast of the race. Warning, long-winded post ahead. 69 status - accident 2 status - overheating 33 owner - Terry Jones (just using the 33 owners' points to keep that team in the Golden A category until Fontaine returns, but the WinTron team got the car wrapped this week) 51 sponsor - Auto Value/XLT Engineering To the rear - 23 - late to tech; 48 - pitting before the green; 06, 2 - driver choice The 04 is a Chevy and the 80 is indeed a Ford, I'll blame that one on the unofficial results sheet being incorrect. ARCA has the 10 listed as finishing the race, he was on pit road for a while when the race ended so that leaves his status rather open to interpretation. The start of the race was delayed an hour by rain. Right as driver intros were about to get underway the skies opened up. Rain threatened on and off during the first half of the race, including a brief shower around lap 90 that thankfully subsided so the rest of the race could be run to completion. There was a ton of standing water over in turns 3 and 4, the TV shots didn't do it justice. Some of the lower-lying areas had a couple of inches of water on top. Coming to the green, the 48 of Brad Smith spun out by the end of the turn 4 quarter mile wall. Not sure if he got some help or if he lost it on his own shifting through the gears. Regardless, it didn't bring out a caution. Riley Herbst was warned multiple times about his aggressive driving, the lap before he spun out Nick Higdon he about dumped the 78 of Tyler Roahrig, who despite finishing 10th was a sold top-5 contender almost all day. The 10 of Austin Nemire - racing with a heavy heart after his grandfather, legendary sprint car driver Jerry Nemire, passed away earlier in the week - got the free pass. He would draw the ire of multiple drivers later in the race - this was Nemire's second ever start in a stock car, and it was also only the second time he's ever had to shift in a racecar. Restarts were very tough for him, especially on the restart he inherited the lead on. Crew chief James Swanson elected to stay out on tires that were just 4 laps old but Nemire dropped like a rock and was caught up in the wreck that ended Shane Lee's day. Thad Moffitt was also upset with Nemire over an earlier incident that left Moffitt up in the foam blocks in 3 & 4 - after the race, a couple pieces of the foam still had blue marks on them from Moffitt's 46 car! The Peterson cars were somehow worse than usual, being involved in several incidents and generally being in the way the majority of the time. More than one team was upset with Con's 0 car always sliding up the track from the bottom and getting into other cars. Wayne's got some body work to do on both cars to get them ready for Elko in 2 weeks. The final caution also had the 10 and 34 involved according to my notes. TV didn't show a replay but if I remember correctly they both hit the foam barriers trying to avoid the spinning 0 and 42 cars. 7. rm posted: 05.22.2017 - 2:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Crew chiefs: 0 - Michael Peterson 04 - Danny Reeves 06 - Bradley Frye 2 - Crystal Bates 3 - Wayne Hixson 5 - Billy Gerhart (same at Daytona) 9 - Adam Lowe 10 - James Swanson 15 - Jeff McClure 18 - Shannon Rursch 22 - Paul Andrews 23 - Bryan Berry 25 - David Leiner 27 - Dan Glauz 28 - Mardy Lindley 32 - Todd Myers 33 - Mark Rette 34 - Tom Bear 41 - Jamie Jones 42 - Danny Glad (same at Daytona) 46 - Mike Cheek 48 - Terry Strange 51 - Bruce Cook 52 - Donnie Richeson 55 - Billy Venturini 69 - Bill Kimmel 77 - Chad Bryant 78 - Mason Mitchell 80 - Wally Finney 8. I thought he would be done with short track races after tearing up his composite short track car at Nashville so I was surprised to see him on the entry list here. He'll definitely be back at Pocono in 3 weeks giving him 5 starts in the first 7 races; if he runs all the speedways he'll have half a season of races easily - something he hasn't done in almost 5 years. 10. ARCA will be missing their two car presence in the future but hey they will still have the Peterson racing wrecking balls to enjoy! 14. rm posted: 05.26.2017 - 11:59 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Guess I was wrong about Elko, sounds like there will be at least 22 cars there, which is as many as they had in Salem. If MDM makes an entry like they have every other race so far this year we'll have more than Salem. 15. I wasn't so sure about him last year, but I now think he's going to be a good driver in NASCAR, whenever he makes the step up (assuming 2 years when he turns 18.) 18.
