The skies opened up with 26 laps to go and Michael Self out front leading to a long caution but no red flag. Sargeant was seventh on the restart with 11 to go but both he and Chad Finley had four fresh tires and came charging through the field after the final green flew. Sargeant raced up and passed Self for the lead with eight laps to go and drove away. Finley had maybe the fastest car of the night but never caught Self and had to settle for third after sneaking past points leader Austin Theriault in the closing laps. The race ended just in time as almost immediately after the checkered flag the clouds unleashed a deluge that soaked the track and would likely have rained out the race. Austin Cindric won the pole for this race and dominated the early stages of it before his car lost power while leading due to battery issues. The #99 team changed the battery to get their Ford back into competition but lost several laps and fell form contention afterward. Cindric later crashed out on the frontstretch, retiring from the race. Zane Smith lost a few spots on the last restart as Finley and Sargeant passed him late. He bounced the #55 Toyota off the wall late but held on to maintain his top-10. Riley Herbst was running eighth under the last caution when his window net came loose. He got it back up but it wasn't quite secure and he lost some spots in the closing laps (did he have to pit?). Reigning Stadium Super Trucks champion Sheldon Creed, again with a Davey Allison throwback look, turned in a great run. For the second race in a row he again led the race en route to a top-5 finish. Not a bad turnaround after he got wrecked early in the NASCAR Truck series race at Eldora two nights earlier. 3. Chase Briscoe won for the team here in 2016 before he moved up to the NASCAR Truck series opening the door for Dalton Sargeant to repeat the feat here. 4. They would spend 6,7,8 or more laps under caution even when there was only a piece of debris to pick up 6. JSPorts posted: 07.22.2017 - 12:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Was it on TV? Not sure what happened with the 06 or the 3. Attendance - way too small...couldn't have been more than a couple thousand people there, a really disappointing turnout. Fans can say they want more races at the Indy short track but if a pitiful crowd shows up to actual races at IRP nothing will happen. Great track, great racing, but nobody was there to witness it. There were probably several hundred people at best left when the checkers fell as many people left during the caution for rain. 9. It may also not help that the track is a dump or at least looks like it. The NHRA really doesn't care about LOR. 11. A shame, because all those empty seats witnessed a pretty decent race. 12. 24over48 posted: 07.22.2017 - 6:16 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @11, with all due respect, Indy has over 200,000 seats and Lucas Oil has 30,000. You can't even compare based on how the stands "looked". A sold out crowd at Lucas Oil will look completely empty at Indy. And from hearing from all the people that were actually at the track, it sounds like there were a lot more people at Indy today than in previous years for Xfinity. 13. JSPorts posted: 07.22.2017 - 6:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The Indy Xfinity race in recent years has been pretty much the worst racing on the schedule, so I don't blame people for not buying tickets. However, if they stick with this aero package, I could see more fans showing up next time. 14. Shearer used own short track car and could've easily had a Top 10 thru attrition, but agreed with ARCA Officials to keep coming down pit road with the 'one to go' and avoid the 'mob' each caution. 15. Basham might still own that number but they haven't used it in years. Shearer was frequently the slowest of the steel cars, even behind the Peterson guys at times. Coming down pit road every time was to avoid getting in the way of any faster guys who took the wavearound or the free pass. No chance he'd get a top 10, as much as I like Dale, he would have needed several big stackups to get there, like he almost did at Springfield last year. I don't believe he ever pit under green, he went 15 laps down the hard way. Regardless, I hope to see Dale at a few more races this year, since he usually runs the back half of the schedule. 17.
