The 06 wasn't even a true Wayne peterson effort as Peterson barely got one car with Con Nicolopolus. But Con actually kept the car out of trouble and was on the lead lap for a while till he lost three laps on pit road on the second to last caution. This was also Brad Smith's 300th Race. 9. I'm not sure about the 10. 46 - out of fuel Bret Holmes flipped during the race, though the car only went onto its side, which it slid on down the backstretch before coming to a stop still on its door. 10. Veteran racer Mark Thompson had a real shot to win this win. His effort to claim his first ARCA win since 1997 saw him in the top-10 late only to get taken out in the Holmes' car, Holmes' #23 pinned Thompson's #66 against the wall leading to the #66 Ford bursting into flames during the pileup. Thompson will attempt the Daytona 500 too this year and both he and his team were trying to learn things from this race to get them into the big dance. Thompson finishes in front of ARCA debutant Jesse Iwuji, a NASCAR K&N West racer. In an interesting bit of interservice rivalry both Thompson and Iwuji are veterans of the American armed forces but in different branches and different eras. Thompson flew helicopters for the US Air Force during the Vietnam War while Iwuji served in the US Navy (he graduated from Annapolis) during the 2010s. 12. Mader, a winner in ARCA back in 1991, ran a solid race only to get taken out at the end in Holmes/Dean/Thompson/Smith pileup. John Ferrier ran out of gas right before the final restart and pulled off the oval out of the way to delay holding up the last restart using the backsretch's "bus stop" chicane used in road courses at Daytona. 13. 42Fan posted: 02.10.2018 - 10:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Gus Dean causes two wrecks by driving WAY too agressively 14. matthew posted: 02.10.2018 - 10:30 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) the 06 was a hillinburg car 15. 23andJoe posted: 02.10.2018 - 10:36 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) #4: Owner of the car. Heck, the whole race was a classic ARCA-style crash. Fortunately seems like everyone is okay. Michael Self performed a oddity of winning the season finale of the year prior and the season opener of the current season. Going through RR's database, can't find any other time it happened, although there were several examples of bookending a season (beginning and ending a season with a win). 17. I like to watch the race ended in green but the overtime brings too many accidents and waste time. It's like a driver that know he can't win, he thinks "OK, i can't win, so i wreck somebody so the yellow comes out and i've got another chance". Look at the ends of '90 superspeedway races and compare. 29. Scott B posted: 02.11.2018 - 7:22 am Rate this comment: (0) (3) I'll be the one to say it: Daytona should not be on the ARCA schedule. 30. But you have a good point about wrecking someone to get another shot. The only thing is, that could work both ways. If there was no overtime and a driver is having an issue, they may wreck someone to bring the caution out and hope that they can ride around in the same spot under caution for a few laps until the finish. Think about what Harvick did in the playoff race at Talladega when there was only 1 attempt at Green/White/Checkered. 31. Couple corrections, all per the officials' radio: First caution was called for the accident, not the engine blowup actually. That involved the 02, 7, 32, 52 in turn 4. Second caution lucky dog was the 22. Fourth caution lucky dog was the 2, the accident was in turn 2 and involved the 32 and 46 as well, not the 2. Fifth caution was for the 10 stalling in turn 3. Didn't blow the engine and drop oil, he just lost power finally after having issues with that from the drop of the green. I mean, I'm all for trying to finish a race under green, but I also think once the white flag waves, the next flag ends the race, no matter what. It just seems stupid to be that close to the finish and a caution necessitates a restart. And in this particular instance, the big crashes were making for long cleanup periods, so we literally were getting 30 seconds of action at a time for like 20 minutes of stoppage. 48. 23andJoe posted: 02.13.2018 - 7:23 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) >my lap counts might be a lap off, but there was far more caution laps than the 20 that were mentioned This is a 'known bug' with ARCA's race reports. Almost certain that the 51 won't show and if they do, it wouldn't be with Chad driving. They're working on doing a full Truck season for that team. I don't know where the 48 composite is at or if it was involved in the accident last year. I do not think many of the ?hopefuls? will show. Heim is too young. A lot of the guys that tested for Vizion were going for various approvals I believe. Parsons could show in the 22 and Hiers could show in a Fast Track entry. 73. A lot of the really small teams that would enter 3-4 cars (i.e. Peterson Racing) can only afford one composite. 81. Decker and Munter both brought their Toyotas home in the top-10 as mentioned earlier. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
