This race, ARCA's first at Charlotte Motor Speedway since 2004, was run after the Thursday night qualifying for Sunday's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series' Coca-Cola 600 race. NASCAR Camping World Truck series racer Todd Gilliland also makes his first ARCA start in just under three years and turns in a great run. He started from the pole and finished in the top-5 after leading the most laps. Wisconsin racer Tom Berte, 74, again came out of retirement to take part in this race. 4. Had some impressive speed and kept narrowly missing the free pass during the first few cautions but then he smacked the wall under green and lost several laps repairing the car. Not sure if he'll run Iowa & Chicagoland as originally planned now. Michael Self seemed to be the only guy who had the speed to match Todd Gilliland in testing and practice but during the new qualifying format he crashed after he had already turned his fastest lap. The backup car was only finished when the rain delayed the start of the race and it clearly lacked whatever the primary car had. Self ran a lap or two down most of the night and finally had something go wrong on the very last run and parked his smoking car. Patriot Motorsport Group's debut on a mile and a half was a struggle, to put it lightly. They had the two slowest cars in the test and withdrew the 38 before it could hit the track. Jesse Iwuji's 34 car wasn't much better off, as he was one of the slowest cars in qualifying. In the race, he went multiple laps down early and had trouble keeping his line, leading to a threat from ARCA to park his car if he rode up the track into the leaders into the corner again. Eventually he wound up hard in the wall after he bounced off another car in turn 2, but was thankfully ok. Since Wayne Peterson's 06 car is still on the main plan and higher in points, they sent Don Thompson out under cautions to try to get another spot after Bryan Dauzat wrecked out. They pulled the 06 out of the race after he had completed 19 laps, the same as Dauzat. The only problem was, Dauzat was still ahead in the running order - oops... 11. rm posted: 05.31.2018 - 8:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Cautions came out on lap 20 and 80, not 21 and 81, giving us the 36 caution laps as listed 12. oldschoolracing519 posted: 06.06.2018 - 11:34 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Crew Chief updates #78 Doug Richert #23 James Wallace #54 Chris Lawson #28 Jeff Stankiewicz #12 Shane Huffman 13. rm posted: 06.26.2018 - 1:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It looks like the Pocono cautions were accidentally imported and merged with the cautions for this race, oops. 14. rm posted: 11.27.2018 - 3:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 15 DNF reason - handling From the official media guide for the race: Crew chiefs: 06 - Wayne Peterson 1 - Tom Bear 7 - Mark Huff (same for all of Rohrbaugh's ARCA races on this site) 8 - Cully Barraclough 10 - Mike Sroufe 20 - Frank Kimmel 22 - Chad Bryant 27 - Dan Glauz (same for all races in 2018) 32 - Jamie Jones (same for all races in 2018) 38 - Terry Elmore 41 - Mardy Lindley (same for all races in 2018) 52 - Donnie Richeson (same for all races the 52 ran in 2018) 55 - Billy Venturini 57 - Bob Rahilly (same for all races in 2018) 69 - Bill Kimmel 77 - Paul Andrews (same for all races in 2018) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
