It's very possible that same statement will apply after tomorrow's Xfinity race, but at least in the ARCA race it was not an entirely predictable outcome. 2. (Heard many reports that his car sounded off) 69 - Mike Basham - ? 1 - Dale Matchett - Crash (Parked it right after spinning himself. Saw him with a flat tire, so that could also be the DNF reason) 0 - Con Nicolopoulos - ? Also, the 1 of Dale Matchett was a Wayne Peterson entry, as evidenced by their twitter, and their sponsor. 3. It's more predictable that Toyota will be dominant in ARCA, because the 3 best teams right now (MDM, Venturini & JGR/DGR) are all Toyota teams. In Xfinity, there are the Fords of Penske, the JRM Chevrolets and Chase Elliott's Chevy that will all contend tomorrow. Toyotas have won every race this year in ARCA. So far, they've won 2 Xfinity races while Chevy has won 4 and Ford has been to victory lane 5 times. But I guess whatever fits your anti-Toyota narrative... 4. Originally, the 1 also had Fast Track Driving School as a sponsor so it could be joint. Hillel burg holds the owner points for the 1, I believe Ralston's entry also went down as Fast Track. 5. JSPorts posted: 06.01.2018 - 11:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The #1 was a Peterson Motorsports entry, and last week it was a ZR Racing entry. However, both times the listed owner was Hillenburg/Fast Track, so I don't know how it should be listed here. I think as long as it's consistent, either Hillenburg both weeks or Ralston last week and Peterson this week is fine. 6. He then got a free pass on the next caution and drove to a Top 10 finish. Decker did get credit for the start though since she crossed the start finish line on pit road to start the race and therefore was credited with the start and Top 10. 7. It's Burton's second career ARCA win, giving him two wins now in five starts. The 17-year-old racer got showered in victory lane with lots of bottled water after he won since he is too young for champagne or beer. Pocono is the largest track Burton has run on to date, his only prior superspeedway races before this were NASCAR K&N East and Truck races at Dover and Loudon. Poole ran as high as second place in Decker's car but faded late. I wonder what the headlines would have been like if he did the Darrell Waltrip/Denny Hamlin thing and won in relief. 9. This race was televised live on Fox Sports 2. 10. rm posted: 06.02.2018 - 12:21 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 1 was Ralston at Charlotte but decidedly Peterson here. Plus she brings much-needed sponsorship to the series. I won't hate on her too much, it's not like she's in a Cup ride without doing anything in the feeder series. There's a reason ARCA is a starting point. 21. Thanks to early fog & rain the originally scheduled 45 minute qualifying session served as the lone raceday practice session, with the starting lineup being set by that session's fastest times. Decker did "qualify" the car by taking a timed lap on the apron, similar to what <18 drivers have done at superspeedways in ARCA lately. Poole then hopped in and completed the session, winding up 11th, so put your jokes aside... 23. rm posted: 06.02.2018 - 6:34 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Sponsor updates: 06 - Wayne Peterson Racing 07 - Superior Walls/GripClean 1 - Ocean Pipe Works 3 - Universe Towing/Semper Fi Heating & Cooling 8 - Bama Buggies/RZR 11 - Cedar Street/Street Stores Hardware 28 - United Rentals 78 - Rutgers College of Business-Camden (same at Charlotte) The 69 was a late entry to the race. Kimmel & co. weren't originally planning on going, so Basham convinced them to prep a car so that they could crew and race it, keeping the 69 up in owners' points. Mario Gosselin & DGM were a surprise entry to the race. While some thought Alex Labbe, who tested at Daytona, would be the driver in the 71 ahead of his first Pocono NXS start, it was actually late model driver LB Skaggs Jr. behind the wheel. It wasn't a bad showing for Gosselin's team in their first ARCA race since 2015. A great showing for Travis Braden who snuck into the top 5 late in the race and was able to get it to stick surprisingly well. It looks like the RFMS bunch is finally getting the finishes that are matching the effort that they're pouring into this car. A rough day for Tony Mrakovich ended with a crash that took out 4 cars, including his teammate Ed Pompa. Mrakovich wrecked in the practice/qualifying session, wrecked again on lap 1, spun again during a green flag run, and finally ended the day with a hard wreck off a restart. Mrakovich got a solid top 15 in this race last year, but you wouldn't know that from watching this race. The accident also took out Jesse Iwuji and Leilani Munter, who while both quite slow & laps down, were out of harm's way until being caught up in someone else's mess. 24. Decker started the practice/de facto qualifying session and is the driver of record there but Poole put up the fast lap. I believe as far as record-keeping goes it's all good right now. Cautions: First caution - laps 1-4 - 11, 46 accident turn 2; free pass - none Second caution - laps 8-13 - 1 spun short chute; free pass - 25 (fancy piece of driving, or maybe luck, by Matchett to keep the Peterson car off of the wall. With the tires all flat his day was done anyway but no further damage was done to the already-dented car) Third caution - laps 38-42 - 11 spun turn 3; free pass - 52 Fourth caution - laps 51-54 - 32 accident turn 1; free pass - 5 Fifth caution - laps 55-58 - 15 spun turn 2; free pass - 11 Sixth caution - laps 59-68 - 10, 11, 20, 34 accident short chute; free pass - 3 Seventh caution - laps 69-72 - 52, 78 accident short chute; free pass - 3 0 DNF reason - handling 26. joey2448 posted: 06.02.2018 - 8:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) So anyone actually know the reason for Decker turning the car over to Poole on lap one? 27. He told me he was met with cheers from the fans along the fence in the RV lot for the save. His car also lacked a roof number, which was surprising to me that ARCA let that happen. 31. oldschoolracing519 posted: 06.06.2018 - 9:34 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Crew Chief updates #54 Kevin Manion #71 Mario Gosselin #12 Shane Huffman 32. rm posted: 06.26.2018 - 2:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Pole speed: 170.506 mph It was announced that the final practice session would serve as a joint practice and qualifying session, therefore the pole was awarded to the fast driver from that session - Gragson. 33. Decker then started the race and immediately pulled on pit road where Poole hopped in the car, with Poole never actually starting any session as the primary driver (besides the open test). And seeing as in-race relief drivers aren't tracked on this site for stock cars, it's accurate as it's listed now. 35. JSPorts posted: 01.10.2020 - 3:12 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Natalie bested this result 5 times in 2018. Poole did a pretty good job in relief considering he lost all his track position and the race was only 80 laps long (on a track where it can be hard to pass.) 36. rm posted: 01.10.2020 - 6:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Poole did get bailed out by an immediate yellow on the first lap due to the 11 & 46 wadding it up in the tunnel turn...that being said, it should be pretty telling - and unsurprising - that the race Poole ran was one of the 25 team's better results of 2018. 37. Mile501 posted: 01.10.2020 - 8:23 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @34 - Even though you are technically correct, it seems like there should be some way to make note of relief drivers in those sorts of situations. 38. rm posted: 01.11.2020 - 1:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) If nothing else, it'd be an interesting project to keep track of, at least examining that trend over the past 15-20 years or so where relief drivers have become a rarity due to an increased emphasis on driver conditioning (thus making fatigue-related relief drivers much less necessary) and on recovering from injuries/illnesses more extensively before returning to the seat. It's a phenomena that occurs a handful of times a year now among the national touring series, if even that often. Just strictly over the last couple seasons, the only examples I can think of are Poole/Decker here, Timmy Hill/Carl Long at the Southern 500 in 2017, Hill/Dick Karth at Road America in Xfinity this year, Daniel Hemric/Austin Dillon at Charlotte in Xfinity this year (though Hemric didn't last very long himself), and a few in the second East race at South Boston this year due to the rain postponement. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few more...maybe that'd be an interesting blog topic for someone to tackle, in case anyone needs writing inspiration? 39. rm posted: 05.04.2020 - 9:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 69 status - overheating ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
