Schrader's bunch never actually were on the entry list for this race. Schrader had no sponsor so they skipped it. Will Kimmel didn't plan on racing for it so combining that with David Sear destroying their steel car at Iowa meant that Kimmel was not going to enter Elko. The big story was Chase Purdy's engine fire with 10 to go that forced a 30+ minute red flag. Gus Dean kept his cool after coming back from a 2 lap deficit with about 40 laps left to hold off charges from Joe Graf Jr. and Christian Eckes. Dean last won in another wild finish at Talladega in 2016. Chandler Smith was the guy to beat, pulling out to a full straightaway+ lead during the long green flag run. The handling ultimately went away after a caution finally came out for Dean spinning and he couldn't pull away like that again. He wound up spinning out racing for the lead and ended up outside the top 5. 8. @statscrash posted: 07.15.2018 - 11:49 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Natalie Decker with a top 5 finish after a rough stretch lately. 9. I wonder when was the last time Petersen flat out didn't enter a car for an event. The Holmes #23 was using a Peterson car as a S&P to keep up in the owners standings, so even more suprising to not see Wayne at the track. 12. ol hank posted: 07.15.2018 - 1:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) been a very sad year in ARCA, Hixson and Praytor shutting down, Schrader and Kimmel skipping races, Gerhart really scaling back, and now Peterson not even getting one car to the track. 13. joey2448 posted: 07.15.2018 - 2:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Gus Dean picks up career win #2 in the ARCA series, finally getting back to victory lane after winning at Talladega in 2016. His first win came in just his second career start, and it took until his 40th career start to get his second win. Natalie Decker ties her career-best ARCA finish in fifth, where she also finished earlier this year at Daytona. The eight caution periods made this the slowest ARCA race at Elko in the event's five-race history. 14. TeamDCR fan posted: 07.15.2018 - 3:51 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) 12. Very true. JSPorts posted: 07.16.2018 - 12:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Gerhart's last full-time season was 2006. He's on track to run 6 races this season, 3 fewer than he did a year ago. However, he did run 6 races in 2016, so it's not unprecedented. But you have to consider that he's almost 60 years old, he's not going to keep racing forever, either. 22. I think alot of this has to do with NASCAR buying ARCA, I'm sure the fields will really be small next year, then NASCAR fully absorbs ARCA in 2020. 26. Anonymous posted: 07.16.2018 - 6:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Rob, I think it partially comes from this being a race at a small track all the way up in Minnesota. Not as much incentive to haul up there. 27. rm posted: 07.16.2018 - 7:59 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) Right on the money, 26. If you look at the car counts at the faraway short track last year they weren't much better, before the NASCAR thing was in play. 28.
