Wonder whether it makes them more money to prepare 4-5 cars in ARCA and go home with purse for multiple top 5s than it did to have one truck and do a solid job usually on the fringes of the top 10. Obviously the ARCA one is more expensive, but it should return more and more sponsorship can be had, no? 5. Even before that, there was nearby lightning that forced the Fox Sports 1 camera crews to abandon their posts on top of the grandstands, leaving only remote trackside cameras and on boards to show the fans the action. Sheldon Creed must have known the rain was approaching, because just a handful of laps before the yellow flew, he desperately tried to take the lead. Creed got a run on Zane Smith for the lead down the frontstretch on lap 29, and raced side-by-side with the #41 through turn 1. Creed got loose and the two cars touched and both did a great job of saving it, although Creed did brush the wall off turn 1 and continued on. Gus Dean captured the pole, his first in ARCA, but dropped back quickly and ultimately ended up spinning by himself off turn 2 on lap eight. Just before Dean's spinout, Natalie Decker encountered some sort of problem as she was losing a lot of time and struggling with her car's handling. I never found out what it was though. 12. rm posted: 07.28.2018 - 4:48 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) To the rear - 06, 57 - missed driver intros; 5 - unapproved adjustments DNF reasons: 0 - engine 6 - clutch 32 - accident 77 - accident All others running Owners: 3 - Tony Aquilino (same at Pocono I & both 2017 Pocono races) Thad Moffitt, #46 Empire Racing Ford (John Corr) JJ Pack, #61 Iceboxx Toyota (Heather Pack) Sponsors: 0 - Ocean Pipe Works 06 - Ocean Pipe Works/George's Eggs 07 - Superior Walls/GripClean 6 - Ocean Pipe Works/George's Eggs (Matchett only) 6 - Pure Chocolate Energy (Senica only) 15 - JBL.com 20 - Vegan Strong 25 - Shoney's/N29/Yamaha 43 - Nesco 48 - HIE Publishing/Copraya 71 - Nas-Tar/IKO 13. Pure domination by MDM (positions 1-4) and Toyota (1-6.) Even with the incredible season Smith has had, he's still 160 points behind Sheldon Creed. However, with 6 races left, either driver could still win the title. It will certainly be a fun title chase, but unfortunately I won't be able to see it because I don't have MAVTV. The only other race on a channel I get is the finale at Kansas (on FS2.) 18. rm posted: 07.28.2018 - 10:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) ARCA rolled into intros as soon as Truck practice finished. The green flag was actually slightly ahead of schedule. Everyone knew it was a race to halfway, probably the only people complaining in the garage were the ones that played poor pit strategy and came down pit road as soon as it started to sprinkle Additional to the rear: 6 - driver choice Matchett had a clutch issue and they requested that they start well behind everyone because they were going to be basically starting at speed and didn't want to run over anyone else in the back of the field. The 0 was trailing smoke all day, making both Peterson DNFs legitimate failures. 19. Willsome429 posted: 07.29.2018 - 3:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Herbst is bringing money to the ride. The "Terrible Herbst" deal is his family's oil company, not just some UFC promo. Also, I think that the notion of "pay drivers" for MDM is a bit off-base. I think it's just a good combination of guys with talent who just happen to have money, it's not like Zane and Sheldon are like Natalie and Leilani and bring money and run well below the other cars on the team. Not 100 percent familiar with the situation on the 7 but Rohrbaugh does what he can with a limited budget, GCM does fund the effort (listed as Grant County Mulch Racing) but not with nearly as much money as some of the others. Finally, MDM was made out of the remnats of the Ranier program, don't think there's any affiliation with Toyota/Gibbs, they actually were Chevy-affiliated in Trucks last year and had Chevy guys in the truck. 20. rm posted: 07.29.2018 - 10:32 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I believe Ranier is/was an investor in MDM. The ownership structure there is really convoluted and I've never been able to quite figure it out. Ranier still is with MDM, he spots for Sheldon Creed and is one of the MDM driver coaches with Austin Theriault. They moved to mostly Toyota this year, but they've run Chevy occasionally last year and still have Silverados in the Trucks. The whole "Toyota ARCA dominance" narrative that's being pushed here is weird. TRD is only backing Venturini and DGR-Crosley to a certain degree. It's not like they're all winning because they have superior TRD motors under the hood since everyone (at the front, anyway) is running the spec Ilmor engine. They're winning because that's what the two best teams are running - Toyota bodies. MMM and CBR have had multiple opportunities to win this year and came up just short - and they run Chevy and Ford respectively. Gus Dean did win a race in a Chevy. Sean Corr arguably should have won Daytona - driving a Chevy. Anyway, back to the topic of this race...the 71 of LB Skaggs was fielded by himself this race as Mario Gosselin was busy with 3 cars out at Iowa for the Xfinity show. I don't think Bobby Gerhart was running at the finish - he was on pit road with the team making more rear end repairs and having Ilmor service the engine when the race ended. Either DNF reason is probably acceptable. Tom Berte lost 5 laps when the battery died in his #10. This is almost certainly his final career race. At 75 years old, it's impressive he's raced and unretired as many times as he has. 21. JSPorts posted: 07.29.2018 - 10:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't really understand the MDM thing, either. Ranier Racing with MDM was the first iteration of the team, owned by Lorin Ranier, Mike Hillman & Doug Fuller. In its current form, the team (MDM Motorsports) is owned by Matthew Miller, Doug Fuller and Mark McFarland. Not sure about the involvement of Ranier or Hillman in the current operation, though it sounds like Ranier is still involved, perhaps just not as an owner. 22. David posted: 07.30.2018 - 11:25 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Given the declining entries in ARCA and both K&N series, is it possible that NASCAR plans to combine all 3 into one nationwide series? The K&Ns already cover East & West while ARCA covers much of the area in between. That would certainly open up a wide variety of tracks for just one series, but considering the travel costs for teams at that level, it's very difficult to picture it truly being a coast-to-coast entity. Unless perhaps the schedule compressed all eastern dates together, then the same with the other two areas. 33. MSportRev posted: 07.30.2018 - 11:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @32 I think combination races between ARCA and the two K&N Pro Series divisions are much more likely than a complete merger of the three divisions. 34. rm posted: 07.30.2018 - 11:39 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) It is far, far more likely they will make it to where you can run the same car in K&N or ARCA than a straight up merger between the series. 35. Scott B posted: 07.30.2018 - 11:57 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm almost certain they will make the car specs the same between ARCA and the K&N East/West series to make crossover easy with less expense. I think they will keep the 3 series separate at least for a few years to come, with some tweaks in the schedules. Keeping them divided by geographic regions makes sense for small teams that want to run a full schedule in a touring division, but can't afford nationwide travel. Better funded teams with hot prospect drivers would have the option of running extra races outside of their region with a common car design, to accelerate the driver development with more seat time. Pretty much a win/win that way. 36. Gray Gaulding's Distant Cousin posted: 07.30.2018 - 12:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) When the COT Came into NASCAR 10 yearsd ago it dreid up the pool for old cup cars, combined with the new car having a large amount of start up costs (Although it's better long term than a regular car), it's driven out a lot of the teams. Also ARCA ain't paying a lot and hasn't been for a while. 37. Ultimate Warrior #18 posted: 07.30.2018 - 3:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Definitely when the COT came to NASCAR it hurt ARCA big Time because all the teams were buying all the old used cars from the cup teams for virtually pennies on a dollar. and from about 05-2010 were the most competitive years of Arca because of that. But soon all the equipment got old and many Mom and pop teams couldn't afford to build new cars or repair of the old ones. So around 2012 a decline started and now we're here with small grids 15-30 Max there was once almost 70 Arca teams showing up to Daytona. 38. rm posted: 07.31.2018 - 1:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) There were 3 cautions for 15 laps.
