Darrell had originally stated he was likely retired after doing a one-off at the fall Salem event in 2017, coming back from beating cancer, but now has wound up with as many starts so far in 2018 as he had in the 3 previous years combined. 6. The lowest was 18 (Elko) and the highest was 39 (Daytona). This is the most cars that have showed up since Pocono (29). 8. rm posted: 09.07.2018 - 8:45 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It will be the best short track turnout since the IRP race last year. Kansas is definitely looking like a 30+ car field, which is an improving sign going into next year. 9. I swear I remember them doing that at Texas world speedway once 10. oldschoolracing519 posted: 09.07.2018 - 10:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) IRP rain out? I see its been rescheduled. When i went to tune in to the race tonight it was showing the Elko race instead with nothing mentioned. @9 Yes Arca ran a couple combo races with the West series at Texas World Speedway 11. rm posted: 09.08.2018 - 7:59 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) The ARCA Shore Lunch 200 has been rescheduled for October 6th. The announcement went out an hour before the scheduled start. 12. In addition to that, 2 of the 3 major test sessions (Daytona & Charlotte, but surprisingly not Pocono) were shortened at some point by storms. I am including Nashville in that list though it didn't rain - there were snow flurries throughout the day instead! Luckily the forecast for Salem looks like nothing but sun right now and it's too early to tell what will happen for the final two races, but having half of the schedule impacted by rain is ridiculously unlucky. For the record, I counted 7 of 20 as affected by rain on the 2017 slate. 14. oldschoolracing519 posted: 10.01.2018 - 4:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Crew Chief updates #24 Jeff McClure #25 Frank Kimmel #41 Mardy Lindley #28 Jeff Stankiewicz #18 Robert Barker 15. 11darknight10 posted: 04.15.2019 - 8:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) no one gonna mention kimmel finishing 2ND?? okay... 16. Cooksey also finished 9th at DuQuoin in 2017, but the important distinction between 2017 and 2018 is that he ran the final 2 laps in 2017 trailing smoke from a blown motor! Also have a sneaking suspicion that Buck Stevens didn't have transmission problems in this race, I seem to remember that he had been the only car that hadn't made a pit stop by the time he dropped out. I think Wayne let him run out of gas, which ultimately wouldn't matter since he was already the last car running anyway. 18. rm posted: 05.04.2020 - 9:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Found a results sheet & rundown: There were 10 cautions for 53 laps, not 48...I know I've cried wolf before on supposedly inaccurate caution lap totals in the lower series (looking at you, Southeast series), but I'll gladly screenshot what I found and pass it along if further proof is needed. First caution - laps 16-21 - 77 spin turn 4; free pass - 10 Second caution - laps 27-34 - 32 accident backstretch & track watering; free pass - 77 Third caution - laps 35-40 - 41, 77 accident backstretch; free pass - 03 Fourth caution - laps 46-49 - 25 accident turn 3; free pass - 06 (holy announcer jinx! As soon as they compliment her for holding off dirt standout Will Kimmel, she wrecks by driving into the corner way too deep while passing the lapped car of Buck Stevens) Fifth caution - laps 53-58 - 25 spin turn 1; free pass - 06 Sixth caution - laps 62-65 - debris backstretch; free pass - 77 Seventh caution - laps 68-74 - 8, 27 accident turn 1; free pass - 41 Eighth caution - laps 75-79 - 16 spin backstretch; free pass - 77 Ninth caution - laps 83-86 - 06 stalled backstretch; free pass - none Tenth caution - laps 87-89 - 24 stalled turn 2; free pass - none DC: Dale Shearer - 73 - Perfection Collision of Indianapolis - Dale Shearer - Ford Will Kimmel played an interesting strategy card in this one. Kimmel blatantly jumped the final restart from 2nd place, not only beating leader Logan Seavey to the line but gapping the field by a significant margin heading into turn 1. Upon being black-flagged, Kimmel gave the lead up to Seavey and settled into 2nd. The reasoning he gave for the move? He knew that he was never going to be able to maintain his spot in 2nd place from the outside line, so he ensured he'd have the inside groove and then slowed way down and allowed the rightful leader of Seavey back by. I guess it's not crazy if it works, right? Natalie Decker's day went downhill fast after she crashed for the first time. She spun to bring out another caution and then went for yet another spin on lap 67, but didn't bring out the yellow that time. Travis Braden wishes it had been a caution, though, as mere moments later he was cleaned out by Chase Purdy in a hard crash. Sheldon Creed also went for a spin in the closing laps that went unnoticed by race control, probably just wishing the race would end at that point. The polesitter quickly got back going, but nearly caused a yellow anyway in the next turn when he drove in way too deep trying to make up lost ground while racing Decker. And of course, that was finally the time that Decker was able to save it. One of the support events on the undercard for this race was a modified race. It was won by Ken Schrader - who else could it be? - and his teammate Tony Stewart came home second. Schrader has won the ARCA race at DuQuoin three times - also adding a pole last year to become the oldest polesitter in series history - and Stewart's lone ARCA win came at DuQuoin. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
