The 2nd generation of racing showed off in this one, with a dominating win by Harrison Burton, and amazing runs by Todd Gilliland & Brandon McReynolds. Brandon had an incredible (albeit questionable) run to the front before a mis-timed bump draft sent him into the outside wall. I also really liked the Davey Allison throwback scheme he ran. 3. Matt posted: 02.10.2019 - 9:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also, Paul Williamson was involved in the series of incidents on lap 49. He was shoved hard into the inside wall by another car, while cameras were focused on the 3 car melee that began while cars avoided the spinning Connor Hall. (Seriously, 3 separate wrecks at once?) 4. Corey posted: 02.10.2019 - 9:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't know if I would call them separate. One of them was a reaction to Hall spinning. Hall doesn't spin then Pack doesn't get into the car outside of him in avoidance. Can't say anything about Williamsons wreck as I have no idea how that one happened. 5. Hi posted: 02.10.2019 - 9:50 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) According to Vizion Motorsports when the wreck happened the 35 & 36 slowed down but the 77 wasn't able to in time. The 77 then hit the 36 that shot him into the 35 and they both hit the wall hard. Brandan Queen was able to drive back to the pits while Paul Williamson was not. 6. She was leading the outside line about halfway thru the race and just didn't seem able to go, eventually she got put in the middle and dropped way back to 20th or so. Then she and Munter got hooked up and ran all the way back up to 6th (the TV guys totally missed that). And after that she was able to hold her position thru all the foofraw at the end. Seemed like either she or her car didn't want to get going on restarts, tho, because she wasn't making any evident effort to improve position. 20. This was Natalie Decker's first big stock car race after she tested to compete for the all-female open-wheel W Series in Europe, despite her stock car background she turned heads and became a finalist to race in that series. 21. RaceFanX posted: 02.10.2019 - 3:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Thad Moffitt qualified on the outside pole and had some hype coming into this one. He ran in the top-5 early on but his hopes of victory were all but dashed when his window net fell down at speed and he was black flagged to come in and fix it. Joe Graf, Jr., making his Daytona debut after being a winner in ARCA action last year, fell out of contention very early in this one when his #77 Ford overheated. 22. RaceFanX posted: 02.10.2019 - 3:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Brandon McReynolds was driving a beautiful #28 U.S. Workboats / Soaring Eagle Casino Toyota in this one with a throwback paint job recounting the 1980s "Battlestar" livery his late godfather Davey Allison used to race in the Cup series. McReynolds, making his first ARCA start since his Talladega win back in 2012, was coming strong with Todd Gilliland tandem drafting with him in the closing laps only for Gilliland to get into and turn the #28, setting up a multi-car crash that brought out the race's final caution. Gus Dean had a great race going and was a real factor for the win until he was shuffled back a little late then taken out in the McReynolds wreck. His #32 Chevrolet got turned into the outside wall with the hood seemingly splitting in half from the impact (been awhile since I've seen a car do that, maybe Phil Parsons in the 1996 Talladega Busch race). 23. GGDC posted: 02.10.2019 - 4:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @14 didn't that team also run some races in NXS too? 24. rm posted: 02.10.2019 - 6:13 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) 23 - forgot about that. Josh Berry was their driver. And speaking of that team... Remove the 77 from the third caution, one long speed shot from the accident seemed to show the two Vizion cars taking each other out while Graf was still a couple lengths behind them. The final caution came out on lap 79, not 80, which would make the laps from the breakdown equal the laps from the summary up top. Sorry. Empire's foray into 3 cars got off to a rough start when John Ferrier didn't start on pit road. The team finally got the car going, but the race was already under the first caution by the time that happened. Thad Moffitt was off to a great start in his Daytona debut but was ultimately doomed by a faulty window net before he crashed late. Luckily Sean Corr salvaged something for the time with a 5th place finish, redeeming himself after running up front late a year ago but crashing out on the final lap. Joe Graf had a rough week. The team had to change the drivetrain before qualifying and missed both the in-line time and his group's go time. ARCA let him tag onto the final group that was short one car so that he could post a time, even though he was destined to go to the rear anyway. Graf was forced to make multiple pit stops once the race started and was never a factor. After a year with Cup champion crew chief Paul Andrews, Graf is now working with team owner and ARCA champion crew chief Chad Bryant. 25. The new procedure called for a single attempt and this race put it to the test after a big crash with 2 laps to go. The move was largely unpopular with fans that only watch the superspeedway races but was well-received by the teams. The race ended under green after a single one-lap dash, averting a crisis and avoiding the carnage that plagued the final lap(s) in 2017. There was still almost mayhem after the checkers as someone got into Riley Herbst and nearly caused him to spin midpack, but Herbst saved it. 28. This shows that Graf was behind them and never was close enough to contact, looks like one of them checked up to avoid the guy in front of him and came up into the other one and took them both out. Based on the pics of the damage that I have from the garage, Queen in the #35 was the one who had the right front damage so I suppose he was the one in the front who turned across the front of Williamson in the #36. In Queen's own words he seemed to think that Graf hit him, and that's what the team thought too. Con Nicolopoulos in the #06 told me that he thought the same from his perspective, but he was pretty far back so he wasn't 100% https://twitter.com/The_Rhino23/status/1094366669898694661?s=20 41. rm posted: 02.13.2019 - 5:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Wow, good find! Honestly not sure why it's a rule, probably implemented it because NASCAR had it and since it's hardly ever a point of actual contention, why bother rewriting the rules? If I had to guess, it might be useful if, say, a multicar team owner gets suspended for some reason. In the case of the Venturinis, they could still field the 20 & 25 since they're owned by Bill's son and wife respectively. If they still wanted to field the cars that Bill is on paper as owning, they could do so under different numbers and list the owners as, say, the 15 crew chief and Billy's wife. Obviously a bit of an extreme case, but that's as good of an explanation as I could think of. 64.
