I can only wonder if Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, Joey, Logano, Denny Hamlin, or any of the Cup drivers. Think about what they could've done if they were in those positions that these kids were in. 7. That took away any possible momentum of the high line, and set up a single-file train run to the finish. Herbst seemed content to stay behind Gilliland, and admitted as much afterwards. Top seven cars led in a breakaway, but with that few cars in the pack, weren't able to mount any kind of run in the last few laps without destroying momentum. Lynn attempted to back up to Majeski, but there wasn't enough push to propel them up to the 18. 10. No one wanted to pass. Everyone was afraid to make a move, which defeats the purpose of racing, just a single file line the whole way. 3. 2 Accidents happened and nothing else. No one made a big move through the pack, no one wanted to take the lead, no one wanted to even move out of line, nothing! Just ZZZ. 13. That has to be the lowest I've ever seen in a stock car race. 15. Canadianfan posted: 04.27.2019 - 1:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The biggest problem is ARCA banned the old steel body cars this year. They gave the teams a couple years to slowly faze out these old bodies. Some of the smaller teams that bought the surplus cars from NASCAR couldn't afford to make the switch. Yes the new composite car is cheaper but if you already have a steel body making the switch is expensive. Also everyone uses a spec engine from Ilmor. It used to be you could go out and get whatever you wanted it as long as it was with and regulations so some of the smaller teams would get old used NASCAR engines at a deep discount. 16. joey2448 posted: 04.27.2019 - 2:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Two races ago, Christian Eckes was leading the series points standings, but after missing Salem to illness and crashing at Talladega, Eckes has suffered a huge drop in the standings. At Talladega, he was sitting comfortably in the pack midway through the race when he got tangled up with the #46 of Thad Moffitt as a pack of cars slowed down coming to pit road for green-flag stops. 17. They mentioned on their Facebook that they had at least one car and were ready to go, but needed a funded driver. Nothing materialized I guess. The car count really stunk for this race. 19. I was in the stands for this one, and I could count maybe 4 or 5 passes the entire race. It was 76 laps of single file. Pathetic, and embarrassing for everyone involved. 21. To address the end of the race, both Herbst and Lynn noted in the post-race press conference that they didn't want to try to pass at the end because they might wreck and lose owner points for their team. it was just unfortuante timing for the end, IMO, as some of the lappers did a good job of changing lanes whle being lapped and splitting the field. McReynolds showed at Daytona he wasn't afraid to play aggressive; unfortunately he wound up laps down. I truly do think it is an anomaly and we will see better results in future years. 22. Wil posted: 04.27.2019 - 8:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Quite possibly the worst race I've ever watched. I knew with 10 laps to go when the 18 of Riley Herbst was in 2nd, that the single file train would just go to the finish. Pulling out and making moves takes talent, and Herbst and those others just looked like the amateurs they are. A bad look for the series. 23. rm posted: 04.27.2019 - 10:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) End of the day, it's hard to make moves with how few cars there were in the packs there. The small field hurts, definitely, but most of the cars missing compared to Daytona were midpack or back of the pack. What really hurt were the packs getting really strung out due to the lack of cautions and then a few more cars falling out due to mechanical issues (McReynolds, Decker, Pompa, Praytor) and then Eckes and Moffitt crashing out. Honestly, as much as it pains me to say as a fan, the guys were right to ride it out. Makes for a terrible product but in this series the teams really just want to get through the plate races without wrecking. In the big picture, the teams would rather the drivers do nothing and sit in line. Not very exciting, but that's the play here for those guys. The 35 did file an entry actually. There were a couple WDs, I'll post them tomorrow and can post proof too of a couple cars entering that no-showed if need be. 24. Gilliland is a regular in the Truck series and the #4 Toyota team's decision to enter this race at all was a last minute deal, they decided to do so just 10 days before the race was to be run. With Gilliland having some recent struggles in the Truck series this victory was seen as a nice boost for the young racer. Thad Moffitt's #46 Chevrolet had a beautiful throwback paint scheme for this race inspired by his grandfather Richard Petty's 1980s STP #43. The Petty Blue-and-florescent red #46 looked great but it got wiped out in Moffitt's early crash with Christian Eckes. 25. Vigh walked away afterward with some help and despite finishing way down the running order he's still in the top-10 in points overall. 26. The last green flag run was so long the lead pack caught and lapped past Nicolopoulos twice. 27. RaceFanX posted: 04.27.2019 - 11:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) There was some concern that there might be a caution right at the end of this one when Thomas Praytor's yellow #9 Chevrolet had a serious mechanical failure and slowed on the backstretch, he limped back to the pits and the race stayed green to the finish. Praytor's #9 could still be seen sitting on pit road with the hood up as Gilliland celebrated his victory. The #9 was adorned for this race with a sponsorship from the Alabama Institute for Deaf & Blind, which is located right in Talladega. 28. rm posted: 04.28.2019 - 9:30 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Correction on the cautions: First caution was laps 41-49, and there was no free pass. The 1 was in the free pass spot but was penalized for pitting too soon. Second caution was laps 51-56 and also involved the 69 car. It was great to see the Praytors back, unfortunately they had some engine issues throughout the weekend and eventually ended their race on pit road with a transmission leak. Won't lie, I'm not completely sure what that is/means. Christian Eckes will take yet another points hit by finishing last here. Still not completely insurmountable, but it's far from an ideal situation for the young driver. Michael Self should have a 5 point lead over Travis Braden on top of the standings. He sure erased the deficit he faced after Daytona quickly! 29. rm posted: 04.28.2019 - 9:35 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsor updates: 9 - AIDB/Max Force Trucking 20 - Carolina Excavation & Grading 23 - Holmes II Excavation 48 - Smith Brothers Racing 57 - O.B. Noah posted: 05.05.2019 - 7:12 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) It also doesn't help that on average, the winner purse for this race is roughly $20,000-$22,000. Last place even at Talladega for ARCA is roughly $1800. Mix that in with the fact that ARCA at plate tracks is known for crashes, its safe to say the team owners didn't want to end up totaling a probably $30,000+ car for less than that. 34.
